Gervonta Davis fired back at one of his fans on social media for their criticism of his next fight against Lamont Roach Jr. on December 14 on PBC Prime Video PPV in Houston, Texas.
The fan simply told Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) that he wasn’t going to watch his fight against Roach and that he wished he wouldn’t fight at all rather than this guy.
Instead of being understanding and saying, ‘I’d better try to give you guys the fights you want,’ Tank cursed at the fan and then told him to get back to what he was doing.
The underlying message of WBA lightweight champion Tank Davis is that he doesn’t care what fans think of him. Tank gives the fan the back of his hand, punching him for talking and wanting more from him than he’s willing to give.
Tank is like a character from the Oliver Twist movie, where a young boy at an orphanage asks for more food: ‘Please, sir, can I have some more?’ ‘More? Get him,” said the person in charge of the orphanage. The boy then runs away.
He will keep fighting whoever he wants, and he won’t give the fans the matches they want to see. In other words, Davis will continue to pick guys he knows he can beat so he can extend his time at the top.
“Don’t watch this fight with Lamont Roach. I’d rather you not fight at all,” Leejrestates said on X.
“Having said that, fuck off. Get back to what you did,” Gervonta Davis said on X, in response to fan criticism of his fight against Lamont Roach.
What a shame to see a fighter like Tank talk to one of his fans like that. Fans haven’t followed Baltimore native Davis’ career long enough to know what he’s all about, as he’s always fought guys who were sure to be wins for him.
When he did perform, he ensured the odds were in his favor with rehydration clauses against Ryan Garcia and Mario Barrios. These are the two best guys Tank has fought during his career that weren’t undersized or old.
Tank Davis could have fought Vasily Lomachenko six years ago, but chose not to. Only now that Lomachenko is 36 and showing signs of age does Tank want to fight him.
