On January 24, 2026, with a significant structural change ICC officially announced Scotland will replace Bangladesh for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka.
It comes after the decision Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) It has officially withdrawn from the tournament as scheduled, citing unresolved security issues related to travel to India. Despite weeks of negotiations and the ICC’s submission of independent security assessments, which found no verifiable threats, it remains at an impasse. Originally the highest-ranked T20I team not to qualify, Scotland have been called up to ensure the 20-team format remains unchanged for the tournament, which starts on February 7.
