Sydney McLaughlin-Levron is among the stars on loan to the Grand Slam Track

The professional track league still owes athletes and its other vendors millions of pounds collectively.

Sydney McLaughlin-LeVron, one of the biggest names in athletics, is one of several stars owed six-figure sums to the Grand Slam Track.

The American, who lit up the world athletics championships in Tokyo by winning the 400m in 47.78, competed at the Slams in Kingston, Miami and Philadelphia.

However, the fourth and final Grand Slam event in 2025, in Los Angeles in June, has been canceled due to cash flow issues and poor crowds at the first three events.

The Protex League filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last weekwhich is aimed at restructuring the business and ultimately staging a turnaround.

Grand Slam Track originally claimed to have $30 million in funding, but the league soon ran into financial problems and found itself unable to pay athletes and vendors.

In October, it distributed $5.5 million to the athletes, about half of what they were owed, but large debts remained.

Court documents now show seven athletes are among the top 20 creditors still collectively owed millions by the Grand Slam Track.

McLaughlin-Levron is owed $356,250, while 2023 1500m world champion and two-time Olympic medalist Josh Kerr is on the hook for $218,750.

Grand Slam Track founder Michael Johnson said he “refuses to give up on Grand Slam Track’s mission and the future we are building together.”

“The Grand Slam circuit was founded to create a professional platform that reflects the talent and dedication of the athletes in this sport. While GST has faced significant challenges that have caused frustration for many, including myself, I refuse to give up on Grand Slam’s mission and the future we are building together.”
