Indian National Cricket Team T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has faced a major injury scare amid his Test comeback ambitions. According to reports, it is learned that the striker may even be left out of the Duleep Trophy 2024.
Suryakumar Yadav suffered a hand injury while playing against Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI in the ongoing Buchi Babu tournament. Although the severity of his injury is not known, there are doubts about his participation in the upcoming game Duleep Trophy 2024.
Suryakumar was injured on the field in the second innings of TNCA XI on the third day of the match. The Indian T20I captain came on to the field with a leg slip and a hand injury that didn’t look great as he was in a lot of pain after the strike.
Musheer Khan delivered the leg stump to Tamil Nadu batter Pradosh Ranjan Paul and flicked it to Suryakumar Yadav through leg slip where Suryakumar Yadav was situated. The Indian captain tried to stop the ball, but the ball hit the hand with a bouncing ball.
As soon as the ball hit him, Suryakumar winced in pain and clenched his hand. The wounded man held his hand tightly, it seemed to be in excruciating pain. The physios went to treat him but he still looked in pain. The right-hander was forced off the field and did not feature on Day 3.
Suryakumar then did not come into bat in Mumbai’s second innings. He managed just 30 runs in the first innings. The team managed just 223 runs in the second innings and faced defeat by 286 runs. They performed poorly with their first innings all out for just 156 runs.
As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding Suryakumar’s injury. The Mumbai Cricket Association has not provided any update on the severity of the injury. It remains to be seen if he will feature in the Duleep Trophy.
Suryakumar Yadav wants to return to Test India
Suryakumar was recently named the Indian captain of the T20I team. Rohit Sharma took charge after announcing his retirement from the shortest format of the game after leading the team to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024, ending India’s 11-year title drought.
However, despite being seen as a T20 specialist, Suryakumar Yadav recently expressed his desire to make a comeback in the Test team. He said he wants to play the longest format of the game for the Indian National Cricket Team.
Suryakumar played a Test for the Indian National Cricket Team. He made his debut against the Australian National Cricket Team but failed to set the scene on fire. If fit, he would like to make a massive impact in the Duleep Trophy 2024 to make his case strong for the Indian Test team, which will feature around 10 Tests in the next few months.
