At the same time, I don’t want the captaincy to change my character. That’s why I want to continue playing the way I’ve always played and continue to play both on and off the field. I want to remain the same outside.”
“My philosophy is that I want players to have the freedom to play their natural game and express themselves while playing for their state and franchise. The only thing that changes when I join the Indian Cricket Team is the form. But the motivation to succeed remains the same, I am only a captain on paper. I always try to learn from my seniors and hope to implement the lessons I learned from my previous captains.”
I have learned a lot about captaincy from Rohit – Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav praised Rohit Sharma’s captaincy during the second Test against Bangladesh, saying the team’s style of play was a testament to great captaincy. He also talked about his relationship with coach Gautam Gambhir and said that he supports his skills and always understands him. He elaborated:
“Watching Rohit Sharma bat in the Kanpur Test made me feel that the T20 series had already started. It was a perfect approach in Rohit Sharma style. Very few teams can force a result after losing the two-dayer, but winning the Kanpur Test was a testament to great captaincy and leadership. I have learned a lot about captaincy from Rohit and I hope to apply these lessons in my own leadership.”
“Coach Gambhir and I have a special bond. He has always supported my abilities and I can never forget that. Even if I don’t express anything to him, he can understand me just by my body language or by looking inside my eyes, that’s special.”
I appreciate the batsmen’s contribution with the ball too – Suryakumar Yadav
Ever since Suryakumar Yadav took charge of the team, the Indians have also contributed with the ball. This allowed the team to have the right balance and go with more bowling options.
Speaking about the same, Suryakumar Yadav said he appreciated the players taking on that extra responsibility and trying to contribute with their bowling. He added that if any player is not contributing with the bat, he wants them to give their best on the field.
He said they want to continue playing the same brand of cricket they did during the 2024 T20 World Cup. He added:
“I appreciate it when I see that the batsmen also contribute with the ball. When players take on that extra responsibility and try to contribute by bowling an over or two, it strengthens the team. If someone is having a bad day with the bat, but I see them giving their all on the field, I believe that kind of all-round contribution can make a team a solid unit.”
“We want to continue to play the same brand of cricket that we did during the last T20 World Cup. If we continue to play this selfless brand of cricket, I believe we will continue to be successful,” he said.
