In previous posts, we looked at the most popular golf ball among our readers by cover material, breaking down the rankings by Surlyn/ionomer and then urethane models.
This time, we’re only looking at the brand level.
Before we get to the results, there are a few things to consider:
- These results reflect responses to a MyGolfSpy reader survey of more than 5,400 responses.
- The survey was conducted before the Tour Edge Exotics golf ball and Golf Balls Amazon Basics were released. As such, no balls are included in the results.
- In most cases, for simplicity, percentage values ​​stated in the text are rounded to the nearest significant figure.
With that out of the way, here are the rankings.
#1 Titleist
It’s no wonder that Titleist is the most popular golf ball brand with our readers, with just over 29 percent of you listing a Titleist model as your first choice. While the percentages may vary, the overall result is consistent with what we know about the market as a whole.
It is also not surprising that For V1 was the most popular choice with just over 12 percent. of Pro V1x accounted for nearly nine percent more. Notable among our readers: all four of Titleist’s urethane offerings were more popular than the most commonly chosen Surlyn model—TruFeel to 1.23 percent.
#2 Maxfli
I doubt anyone can tell you with any degree of accuracy where any of the popular DTC and house brand options rank in the larger ball market. That said, I think it’s fair to say so Maxfli (15 percent of responses) is more popular with our readers than with the entire golfing population.
Among our readers, the top choice is The X tournament (7.5 percent) followed by TOURNAMENTS (5.5). Tour S (1.8) tracks significantly while the company’s Surlyn models barely register with respondents.
#3 Callaway
Callaway was choice no. 3 among readers, accounting for 11.5 percent of selections. Across the market as a whole, Supersoft is Callaway’s best-selling model. Among our readers, however, Supersoft (2.6 percent) paths Soft chrome (3).
While the money is still green, the fact that no ball qualifies as a legitimate tournament-level option is unique among both our readers and market leaders. FWIW, Tour in Chrome (2 percent) and Chrome X tour (1.5) are not far off, but the results illustrate this Callaway there is still work to be done in the category to reach the best player.
#4 Srixon
shocking low, Srixonwhich was chosen as the ball of choice for 10.5 percent of you, finished ahead of TaylorMade and other notables among our readers. Equally surprising, The Z-Star Diamond (3 percent) was the most popular Srixon model followed by Q-Star Tour.
Unlike the market as a whole, the company is well-known SOFT FEELING (1.5 percent) was the least popular of all The Z-Star model. Again, this illustrates our audience’s strong preference for urethane models.
#5 Taylor Made
TaylorMade was ranked as the favorite golf ball by just over nine percent of respondents. of TP5x was the most popular model (3 percent), followed by the amateur one The tournament answer (2.6) and TP5 (2.4). While “soft” offers typically appeal to many golfers, only 0.55 percent of you listed SpeedSoft as your first choice.
#6 Vice
Vice balls accounted for just over seven percent of responses. Not surprisingly, the ranking was topped by the company’s two most popular urethane offerings—Deputy Pro (3.6 percent) and Vice Pro Plus (2.8). None of the company’s other offerings, incl Pro Airaccounted for more than 0.65 percent of all responses.
Vice’s numerous offersTOURNAMENTS AND Travel– were chosen by only 0.21 percent and 0.06 percent respectively, which, if nothing else, suggests that without the relative value proposition offered by urethane models compared to market leaders, there is little incentive to buy.
#7 Costco/Kirkland
With more than five percent of you listed Kirkland as your ball of choice, I think we’ve confirmed Costco’s position as an industry disruptor. What’s interesting (to me, anyway) is that every other brand on this list supports multiple models while Kirkland currently offers only one.
With that in mind, if we rank it by individual model, then Kirkland Performance+ it would only rank fifth behind For V1, Pro V1x, Maxfli Tour X AND Tour in Maxfli— more than two percentage points before each ball in Bridgestone, Callaway, Srixon OR TaylorMade formation.
#8 Bridgestone
Not long ago, brand no. 2 in the market, Bridgestone ranks eighth in our poll, accounting for 4.5 percent of all selections. The top four choices were all TOUR B models with TOUR BX leads with 1.3 percent of all responses. TOUR B RX it was next with 1.2 percent.
The company’s ionomer models, which are more popular in the larger market, were driven by e6 Soft AND e12both of which hover around one-half of one percent.
#9 Wilson
At this point in the list, we’re beyond industry cheats, but I guess three percent of all responses is nothing to Wilson. Not surprisingly, Triad (1.3 percent) was our readers’ favorite ball, followed by Model X staff (0.74) and Staff Model (0.57).
That’s not exactly lighting the market on fire, but it’s noticeable that Wilson’s Surlyn offers both Duo Soft AND Zip combined for just over 0.3 percent of all responses.
#10 Mizuno
Perhaps it is fair to say so Mizuno still trying to find its place in the golf ball category. Brand no. 10 on our list accounted for just under 0.8 percent of all responses. Pro X led by 0.4 percent while Pro S accounted for only 0.25 percent of all responses. Surlyn Company’s most popular offering with our readers—the RB 566— accounted for less than 0.1 percent of all responses.
