Rory Mcilroy has always had physical talent to overpower golf tournaments.
Early, he pulsated the fields with the belief and deception that usually determines the youth. Northern Irish fed crowds, their energy injection often pushes it to new altitudes, including four main titles.
But while the innocence of youth faded, the main hearts of the championship accumulatedAnd Mcilroy, as we all do, evolved. As he changed in the course and grew up, he sought different ways to constantly benefit from his world -class game and to dominate the fields continuously.
Mcilroy arrived at AT&T Pebble Beach pro-am last week armed with a golfa sharpened rhythm and an attack plan borrowed from the viewing of the world no. 1 Scottie Scheffler Levit over everyone else in Golf for the last two years. That combination helped him Waltz for a two -stroke win over Shane Lowry in pretend in his 27th career in PGA Tour TITLE
“I am a great admirer of Scottie for many different reasons, but whenever I play with him, and I see how he plays and how disciplined it is, it is a really interesting thing to see,” Mcilroy said. “And I’ve alluded to this this week, but honestly, just trying to get a little leaves from his book.
“I think that when one of your peers has the year like him last year, and frankly the year he had in ’23, you start taking attention to what he is doing and what he has done or helped him to separate From the rest of the fields. And I have to restore them and I should try to be a little more disciplined for this and that is what I’m trying to do. “
These impulses are rooted in mcilroy. He wants to hit the exciting blow and take the bold line. But now, at the age of 35, he admits that those desires to excite himself and his smart viewers are not always in line with his primary aspiration: to win in a ruthless clip and make it in the larger stages.
To achieve this, Mcilroy believes it is essential for him to calm his mind and play deadly, “boring” golf. This is the evolution of golf in meat.
“I think if I didn’t have the same impulses, people probably wouldn’t want to see me playing so much,” Mcilroy said after his victory at Pebble Beach. “I feel that connection with the crowd of, you know, hitting certain shots or doing certain things people get – I enjoy them too – but people who see to enjoy it too.
“But I also realize that this is probably not the best way to constantly win golf tours. At this point in my career that’s what I want to do, I want to win golf tours. Ten years ago , with three strokes in the 18th hole here, would I hit the 5-Herkuri from Tee?
Mcilroy course management and decision -making have often undermined his talent around the world. He knows this better than anyone and is decided to strengthen the mental aspect of his game so that his ability can take over.
That new mentality passed the first test at Pebble Beach. Mcilroy opened with a round without forgiveness in the Spyglass Hill and then rose to the table with a 65 perfect seven-nine in 65 in difficult conditions on the day of movement. Mcilroy began the last round a 54-volume leader sepp Straka, but he quickly jumped and hit the gas with an eagle at 14 14 to flee the rest of the field.
“I think the only thing I did today really is that I didn’t get too lit, and of course it feels a little boring to me. It may seem a little more boring in the golf course, but it’s definitely more Effective, ”Mcilroy said. “This is something that I consciously try to do a little better a job in. Today was a good test, and I was able to get it well enough.
“I think it comes with age, it comes with experience. It comes with little maturity,” Mcilroy later. “I feel as if over the past few years I have been able not to disappoint so easily in things I cannot control, whether it is a course of golf or such conditions or things.”
Walking up on the 18th road with the tournament in hand, Mcilroy, the high track of golf needles (non-tiger Division), addressed Caddy, Harry Diamond, and expressed confidence when talent crucifies with experience and self-confidence.
“Start as you would say to go,” Mcilroy said Diamond.
Asked what it means to him after the victory, Mcilroy showed his convincing victory in one of the sacred bases of the golf. The performance he put on Pebble Beach? This should become the norm regardless of the arena where he finds himself because he is now specially focused on mixing skills with a quiet mind and killer instinct, which should help Rory Mcilroy be the best version I Rory Mcilroy.
“For the most part, during the course of my career, I have had physical attributes and hit the ball long and was able to do things that maybe some other boys are unable to do but sometimes it has been My mind, or my thought processes kept me a little, ”Mcilroy said.
“I think I am much better equipped now to handle everything that jumps on my way.”
