Bruno Surace hopes to be selected for Canelo Alvarez’s next battle on May 4 in Riyadh. The unbeaten #6-Ranks WBO contender Surace (26-0-1, 5 COs) is one of two fighters considered for Alvarez’s first battle over his newly signed 4-game agreement with the Riyadh season of Turki al-Sheikh. The other is the former champion of middleweight Jermall Charlo.
Surace, 26, has a major dismay, knock out Jaime Munguia in the sixth round on December 14 in Tijuana. It is the only significant victory on his resume, but it is enough that he is considered for Canelo’s next fight in three months.
The lightning-fast right hand that Surace Munguia dropped within the sixth round would give Canelo something to think about. He throws the shot so fast that it’s hard to see, and Canelo is not the hardest man to hit these days. He sustained a lot of punishment on September 14 in his last battle against the inexperienced, big 193 pound Edgar Berlanga.
Canelo is likely to choose Jermall (33-0, 22 COs) because he is better known and more competent than Surace. However, the use of 34-year-old Charlo would be risky because he could withdraw from the fight. It would be difficult to trust in Jermall who got it through training camp without pulling out.
The choice of Jermall would only be for him name recognition With older box fans who remembered him as an active fighter in his best years. It would be for superficial reasons, because he is a fossil and forgotten.
With the many younger, active fighters around Alvarez’s weight class, it will seem completely pathetic for him to choose Jermall as his opponent for May 4, but predictable. He clearly doesn’t want anything to do with David Benavidez or David Morrell.
Canelo wanted to fight against Jermall in 2023, but he chose his brother in a fight marketed as “undisputed vs. undisputed ‘. Jermall reportedly conveyed the idea to fight Canelo.
Surace & Charlo will not interest us, who consider Jermall as yesterday’s news, not interested in many years, and in his last two battles looked below the average. If it was 2020, Charlo would be a good option, but no more.
Better options for Canelo
– Diego Pacheco
– Osleys Iglesias
– David benavidez
– David Morrell
Bruno Surace says to ESPN: “It will be an honor to fight Canelo in Riyadh, he is the benchmark and the face of boxing. As I showed, I win when I walk into the ring. No matter the chance. ” https://t.co/om91e1aag5
