It’s been a little over eight months since SuperStroke rocked the golf grip world buying the 100-year-old giant Lamkin.
At the time, it was heralded as a smart move by SuperStroke. There was more than a touch of sadness, however, as the deal came to an end Owned by the Lamkin family.
But hey, this is the world we live in. Nothing lasts forever.
today SuperStroke is announcing the first new line of grips since the acquisition, called REVL. Note that we said announce, not release, as the gloves won’t be available until sometime this spring. However, with the PGA Show coming up next week, it’s clearly time for the SuperStroke to make some noise.
Here’s what we know
Granted, it’s not much.
According to SuperStroke, REVL is sort of short for “revolutionary.” The company says the REVL combines SuperStroke’s “cutting-edge design” with legendary Lamkin engineering. REVL will feature three options, called Fusion, Player and Comfort for players who prioritize control, durability or comfort.
The new gloves will pay homage to the Lamkin heritage. Each REVL handle will be stamped with a “Lamkin 100” badge on the bottom of the butt. SuperStroke says PGA TOUR pros Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay and Justin Rose will be using the new gloves this coming season.
Furthermore, today’s release is predictably cryptic. There is no information about the price, but SuperStroke says the REVL line will be based on two of Lamkin’s most iconic gloves, the Crossline 2.0 and the Crossline 2.0 Full Cord. While we know this new line will be under the SuperStroke name, we don’t know if SuperStroke will release gloves under the Lamkin name in the future.
Also hidden in the release is this:
“REVL is designed to signify a turning point in the way golfers buy and use their golf gloves.”
We have no idea what that means, but you can bet a barrel full of Lamkin that we’ll find out. The SuperStroke booth will be one of our first stops in Orlando next week.
