Supercomputer predicts Man Utd’s Premier League finish as Ruben Amorim takes over

Manchester United are wasting no time in their bid to shake off the Erik ten Hag era.

After reluctantly retaining the Dutchman’s services at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, INEOS chose to part ways with Ten Hag after one of United’s most consistent displays of the season, although it ended with a 2-1 defeat at West Ham United last month.

The Red Devils have done it ever since named Ruben Amorim from Sporting CP as the successor of the former chief. The Portuguese’s gift for coaching cannot be denied, but many excellent figures have been swallowed up by Old Trafford’s poisoned chalice.

Better United results expected after Ten Hag’s late sacking, but how bullish of Opta supercomputer as for drastic improvement?

Here’s what the statisticians are projecting for the 2024/25 final Premier League table that looked like after the arrival of Amorim.

It is worth noting to choose they weren’t particularly high on Ten Hag’s United going into the season. They projected the Red Devils finish sixth in the table – an improvement on their eighth-place finish last season, but not a very optimistic prediction.

United, after all, had enjoyed a busy summer snapping up talent from Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, including players Ten Hag had successfully worked with and nurtured at Ajax.

However, the Dutch coach, once again, failed to get a tune out of his side as a collective. His team was defensively porous last season, but forgot how to score goals in its final months. A total of 11 points from nine games left them 14th in the table before Ruud van Nistelrooy steadied the ship.

to choose is projecting an improvement in United’s fortunes, but the Red Devils are done ninth with one 54.13 points were expected. This would be the club’s poorest performance in Premier League history by a comfortable margin – 58 (2021/22) are their lowest points in the competition.

So, despite the arrival of Amorim, those who succeed obviously do not expect the new coach to facilitate a clear improvement in the first year. They also give United a 0% chance of winning the league title.

to choose We believe only three teams have more than a 1% chance of winning the division. Liverpool are the current favorites after their incredible start to life under Arne Slot and are tipped to win the title, with 61.08% compared to Manchester City’s 33.59%. Two defeats in a row in La Liga have hurt Pep Guardiola’s side a lot, but they often pile up to win silverware when they start a season badly, so don’t write them off just yet.

Arsenal had designs on lifting the trophy at the start of the summer, but their own stuttering form has seen their chances drop to 4.87%.

At the other end of the table, to choose they have already sent Southampton down. The Saints have a 94.84% chance of relegation, but Ipswich Town’s fortunes look better at 67.74% after picking up their first win of the season at Tottenham Hotspur. However, they remain second favorites to go down, with Leicester the team most likely to join them at 54.15%.
