Team USA is so close they can almost taste victory. Team Europe has been pushed to the brink.

But both teams are using the same strategy and fielding their most electric players first and front-loading their lineups for Sunday’s Solheim Cup singles.

In what figures to be an unforgettable opening match, that of the USA Nelly Kordawho has been unbeaten this week, winning matches in each of the first three sessions before being pulled out on Saturday afternoon, will face Europe’s Charley Hull, who has played every match this week, going 2- 2-0.

Hull was in the second group of the first tee in Robert Trent Jones Golf Club on Saturday and finished as the last player in it nearly 11 hours later when she and Georgia Hall birdied all 18 holes to defeat Allisen Corpuz and Lillia Vu.

There should also be considerable energy surrounding the second leg on Sunday, with Megan Khang, the American team’s energy bunny this week, facing Emily Pedersen, who like Hull is 2-2-0, tied for the record best in Team Europe.

With the Americans holding a 10-6 advantage after splitting all eight games on Saturday, the front-loading strategy makes sense for both sides. Team Europe wants to get the blue flags on the board as soon as possible to keep alive the hope of pulling off the biggest final round comeback in the event’s history. Americans want to do everything they can to prevent this.

Team USA needs just 4 1/2 points to reclaim the Cup while the Europeans need eight points to at least keep it.
