Madison Keys It is excluded from ATX Open in Austin due to its Top-10 ranking. Strange as it sounds, it’s true.
The tournament announced the news on its website today, saying the keys, fresh from its big girls’ title in Australian Open, were excluded.
“As a 250 -level tour, ATX Open is allowed to present only one better player 10, unless the defense sample is returned as a top ranking player,” the tournament said in a statement. “Only in that circumstance can two top 10 players compete in our tour. This helps to ensure balanced competition in all WTA events held during the same week.
“With world no.6 Jessica Pegula already engaged in the event, WTA rules prevent us from having a second highest draw in a draw. When we entered a deal with Madison, its ranking was world No. 21. Now with Its title wins both Adelide and Melbourne, its ranking has been transferred to world no.7 as a result of its new ranking, Madison Will, unfortunately, not able to compete in ATX Open of this year. “
