Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Kavya Maran’s partner have taken the unusual step of formally contacting the BCCI to seek clarification on a number of controversial fielding decisions during IPL 2026. The franchise’s worries have been built over many matches, but the latest incident is about it Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Avesh Khan brought the issue into focus.

This moment immediately caused discussion. The main question was whether the ball had already touched the boundary pad before Avesh intervened. If it had, SRH would have been entitled to additional penalties as per the rules. Fans on social media were quick to point out potential violations, pointing to laws related to dead ball situations and foul play.
But the officials of the match had a different opinion. They concluded that Avesh’s move, while unconventional, did not directly interfere with any player attempting to stop the boundary. This action did not unfairly affect the outcome as neither player was in a position to field the ball at that moment. As a result, no penalty was awarded and the decision remained valid.
While the decision was technically correct, it clearly did not satisfy SRH who felt the situation deserved a closer look.

SRH’s growing frustration: More than one incident
The Avesh Khan episode is not an isolated concern for Sunrisers Hyderabad. As reported, the franchise raises many issues from previous matches, offering a sample of decisions that go against them.

The franchise understands that it is unlikely that the results of the match will be overturned. However, their appeal to BCCI is to seek more transparency and ensure that similar situations are handled more clearly in the future.
SRH’s campaign has been finely balanced at this stage of the tournament. With one win and two losses from their first games, they are still fighting hard. However, such arguments can affect team morale, especially when players feel decisions are not going their way.
