South Africa Xi vs Pakistan – 2nd test, Pakistan tour of South Africa 2025
Keys: Aiden Markram (C), Ryan Rickelton
South Africa will bounce back from the defeat in the opening game of the two-match series against Pakistan when they take on Pakistan in the second Test starting on Monday (October 20).
The Proteas will be buoyed by the return of experienced spinner Keshav Maharaj, who was not part of the previous match and will join the team for this particular match.
A daily dose of cricket!
Maharaj’s XI in place of Subrayen is expected to be prepared in the same way as the rest of the squad.
South Africa showed the resilience of the batsmen, especially in the first innings, and struggled to get the Pakistani wickets.
Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram and Tony de Zorzi will want to repeat the same efforts in the upcoming match, especially played with great maturity.
The team’s only concern as far as the Batting Department is concerned will be the form of captain Aiden Markram and new number one Wiaan Mulder.
While Markram has shown what he can do with his time and again with the bat and will be back to do well at the top of his order, Mulder will be under a bit of pressure as he has not contributed at all at number three.
As a result of Markram’s lack of form, the South African team management will hope that opening partner Rickelton will once again have a good outing and turn the ball on.
Middle Order Batsmen and All-rounders: Wiaan Mulder, Tony De Zorzi, Tristan Stubbs, Dewald Brevis, Kyle Verreynne (WK)
The opening pair will be followed by a middle order that could put their best foot forward in the first Test despite playing the longest format of the game in Pakistan.
The captain will want the likes of Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs to do more of what they did in the first and second innings of the match respectively.
Tony de Zorzi, Standing Captain Temba Bavuma, a century if he scored a century, a century if he scored a century in the first innings.
The visitors would be hoping for a vital contribution from the lower order batsmen, just like in the last match.
Bowlers: Simon Harmer, Senuran Muthusamy, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada
Like the batsmen, South Africa would also be pleased with the way the team’s bowling excelled in both the innings.
The Spin Bowling Trio of Simon Harmer, Senuran Muthusamy and Prenelan Subraye restricted the opposition to just one and did not let the game slip away.
The team’s fast bowling, led by Kagiso Rabada, did its job as well, keeping things at one end.
The Proeas will be hoping that the addition of Keshav Maharaj will boost their bowling attack to continue their good run in the last Test.
