Tottenham Hotspur will face Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday without club captain Son Heung-min.
The South Korean was an injury doubt for this weekend’s trip to Old Trafford. He had to be withdrawn late in Thursday’s 3-0 win over Qarabag in the UEFA Europa League, and head coach Ange Postecoglou confirmed in a press conference that he would make a late decision on whether to include Son in your template.
But the Daily Mail are reporting that the 32-year-old is not fit to play and that Spurs will have to soldier on without their star striker.
Son has been able to boast a relatively impressive injury record Tottenham since joining the club in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen and had not suffered a muscle problem since before Postecoglou’s arrival in north London.
In Son’s absence, Tottenham can reshuffle their front line. Brennan Johnson, who has scored three goals in his last three games, could switch to left wing, with Dejan Kulusevski back on the right after playing almost exclusively in midfield so far this season.
Alternatively, Postecoglou could turn to on-loan Timo Werner, who is yet to register a goal contribution in five short appearances so far this term. Werner first joined Spurs in January and made his debut in a 2-2 home draw united last season, with an assist from Rodrigo Bentancur.
A muscle injury means summer signing Wilson Odobert is unlikely to return until the end of October at the earliest.
