I’m a fan of Scottie Scheffler.
To my surprise, this does not seem to be popular thought. As predominant as he has beenMany golf fans – especially those who tap in the comments – seem to be on it.
During the last round of the 2025 open championship, I moved through social media as I watched Scottie located at a clinic in Royal Portrush. The result was not close. The tour was not in discussion.
But this is some of what I was reading:
“Seeing this playing this man is like watching dry paint.”
“Enough with Bennett Scheffler. We get it. The boy is a father.”
“Someone who actually cares about the game has to win.”
And, for a second, I wondered if that’s how most people see Scheffler now.
Because I don’t.
The humble dominant
What I see is a guy who grew up humble, holds his circle close, functions like a car and really loves the game. I told my kids last weekend, “what you are seeing now is starting to feel like what was like watching Tiger when I was grown up. You may not see this again.”
There is nothing forced for Scheffler. No unnecessary drama (still). Only stable, accurate, relentless golf.
Open Championship TV estimates
People can say what they want, but a great place to control and see the engagement is to watch television ratings. Here’s what the broadcast numbers showed:
- Sunday NBC coverage on average 4.1 million viewers over the last round.
- This number has increased 21 percent from last year’s open championship.
- Peak’s gaze hit 6.1 million between 1:30 and 1:45 in the afternoon on Sunday.
- Over the weekend, NBC and Palua averaged 3.6 million viewers, a 24 percent increase compared to 2024.
These are the highest open championship numbers since 2022 at St andrews.
And this year? It was not even close. Scheffler had a multi-store lead throughout the last round. There was no Sunday accusation, no tension in the play off – just a guy who played better than everyone else.
People were still seeing.
So what does this say?
She says people still tune to see greatness, even when it seems inevitable. She says the predominance, even without drama, still sells. He also says that, despite all the complaints, Scottie Scheffler has become one of the most powerful attractions in Golf.
Of course, some will continue to call it boring. Bound. But the numbers do not lie.
Now the question is: Has Scheffler already arrived or are we just seeing the beginning?
