Six of Central AC’s best in Scottish cross country relays

Jamie Crowe helps his team to another dominant win in Cumbernauld, plus news on the British relegation and hill relay champions in our off-road rounds.

LINDSAYS SCOTTISH AIRLEY CHAMPIONSHIP, Cumbernauld, October 19

Jamie Crowe took Central AC to a 6th straight win with around 100 meters to go in a gripping battle for silver between Cambuslang Harriers and Edinburgh University, the former winning by a second. Dennis Shepherd reports.

The Central win was tinged with emotion as they were without the late Alastair Hay who had such an impact on the National XC Relays.

With Luca Fanotoli in central touch in the opener, Aidan Thompson headed over before Cameron Milne set up a winning lead for Crowe to consolidate.

Edinburgh AC have been awarded the Marjory Cook Trophy, which was launched to honor their late stalwart club official who died in 2021, after winning the women’s race to stop a seven-length stranglehold on Edinburgh University.

Nancy Scott took the lead in the opener, with Beth Ansell and Elsa Palmer rejecting all challenges to leave Kirsty Walker to win as she loved by 48 seconds. Shettleston Harriers edged out the defending champions in second place.

The undisputed winners of the masters were Corstorphine AAC (men) and Giffnock North (ladies) while the over 50 titles were won by Cambuslang and Edinburgh AC respectively.

In the younger age groups, Giffnock North dominated the boys’ race, winning gold and silver ahead of Team East Lothian, while Lasswade AAC won the girls’ title for the first time, ahead of Giffnock North, as Strathearn Harriers came first even won the bronze. medals in this event.
