Faced with the full power of Jannik Sinner’s power can be misleading.
In the last game today, Sinner ended up looking like he was setting up for another damage drive only to hit a handball that went away Daniel Altmaier almost walking out of his shoes trying to change direction.
When Sinner wasn’t shooting flamethrowers, he hit the powder kegs by downing Altmaier 6-0, 6-2 in a commanding comeback in Vienna.
2023 champion Sinner scored his sixth consecutive victory in Vienna, setting up an all-Italian clash against the 22nd seed Flavio Cobolli for a place in the quarterfinals.
Continuing his dominance indoors, Sinner recorded his 17th straight win on hard indoor courts, improving to 46-0 against opponents ranked outside the Top 50 since 2023 Cincinnati.
A masterful Sinner won 18 of 19 first serve points and allowed just four service points in the entire match today. The Sinner tier featured today is virtually unbeatable against any opponent not named Carlos Alcaraz.

Today, Sinner hammered Altmaier in his wing corner, then often forced the German to try to defend his backhand with one hand on the run.
Altmaier owns a 2023 Roland Garros win over Sinner, but he needs time to generate his big returns.
On Vienna’s fastest court, a suffocating Sinner gave the 27-year-old German no time to act from the start. Sinner dropped a shot for double break point and broke in the opener.
The Wimbledon winner was out and running. Sinner broke three in a row, winning 12 of Altmaier’s impressive 15 service points in the opening set.
The level of difficulty deepened for the world number 51 as Sinner hit a backhand winner down the line for his third break and a 5-0 lead.
Even stretched beyond the singles sideline, Sinner brought smart responses. A running sinner made a one-handed backhand pass for 30-love, hit an ace and closed out a remarkable 22-minute opening set by drawing an Altmaier error.
Altmaier hit a forehand and an ace to start the second set with his first hold.
This was a brief respite from the Sinners’ relentless onslaught.
The two-time Australian Open champion won 15 straight service points to start the second set.
Sinner reeled off three back-to-back breaks for a 2-1 lead in the second set. The Wimbledon winner dropped two shots and a drop shot winner to back up the break with a love hold for 3-1.
Hitting an inside-out forehand winner, Sinner capped off a commanding performance in 58 minutes to extend his 2025 record to 44-6.
Earlier, former world number 1 Daniel Medvedev created 18 aces and saved all four break points he faced by winning Nuno Borges 6-4, 6-7(7), 6-2 for his fifth straight win.
“It is not easy to come from Asia,” Medvedev said. “It’s less about the pitches, the balls, the racquet. It’s just about the overall feeling. You’re a little tired.
“I was a little slow on my feet but I was serving well and I’m happy to win because that’s the most important thing.”
Buoyed by his run to his 21st career title in Almaty on Sunday, Medvedev will face his opponent in that final, the French Corentin Moutetfor a place in the quarterfinals of Vienna.
Left-hander Moutet defeated qualifier Damir Dzumhur 6-3, 6-0 in 67 minutes.
Former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini fired nine aces and didn’t drop serve in a 7-6(5), 6-3 victory over Alexei Popyrin. Berrettini, one of three Italians in the last 16 so far, will next face British left-hander Cameron Norrie.
