In a major blow for the Indian National Cricket Team, star right-handed batsman Shubman Gill suffered a serious injury ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Shubman Gill is a key member of the Indian team and his injury will change the dynamics of the playing XI in the Test series against Australia.
Shubman Gill doubtful for Perth Test
According to a recent report by TOI, Shubman Gill injured his finger in a slip during a simulated game against India A in Perth.
His finger injury is serious and makes him a doubt for the opening game of the Test series in Perth from November 22.
However, the star batsman is likely to return to India by playing in the playing XI in the second Test in Adelaide from December 6.
“Yes, Shubman Gill is injured, but it is too early to rule him out of the first Test. A team of doctors is closely monitoring him,” said a well-placed source quoted by TOI.
Shubman Gill shined in Test cricket in 2024
Star top-order batsman Shubman Gill shone for the Indian National Cricket Team in Test cricket in 2024 and was instrumental in their victories.
In total, he played 10 Test matches in 2024 where he batted in 19 innings. In these innings, Gill scored 806 runs at an average of 47.41 and a strike rate of 61.57.
Gill reached three centuries and three fifties in Test cricket in 2024, with a best score of 119. He also held the major record in the longest format of the game on Australian soil.
In 3 Test matches in Australia, the right-handed batsman scored 259 runs and scored two half-centuries at an incredible average of 51.80.
In total, Gill played 29 Test matches for the Indian National Cricket Team and scored 1,800 runs at an average of 36.73, which does not do justice to the talent.
He wanted to recover quickly from the injury and play matches against Pat Cummins & Co. to further improve his stats in Test cricket.
Rohit Sharma may feature in Perth Test
Indian National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma is doubtful for the opening Test series of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australian National Cricket Team.
This was because he did not travel with the team and remained in Mumbai to attend to family commitments as he and his wife awaited the arrival of their second child.
On Friday, November 15, Rohit Sharma and Ritika Sajdeh welcomed their second child. The duo officially confirmed the news on Saturday, November 16.
Meanwhile, Rohit is now highly likely to travel to Australia, with the first Test in Perth a week away. His inclusion in the playing XI will be a big boost for India, especially after India lost Gill to injury.
