Tempera turned on, mounted voltage and shelton increased.
Ben Shelton He found himself a split in the third set against Flavio Cobolli, Italy on Sunday evening in Toronto, but the American dug himself from the hole to defeat his opponent, 6-4 4-6 7-6 (1).
In the process, Shelton won his 100th career victory, and the 22-year advances to face Alex de Minaur in his fourth quarterfinals of his 1000 career when he seeks his first trip to a semifinal at this level.
With Victory Shelton becomes the 8th man born in the 21st century, he reaches 100 victories, and the 9th American man to reach feat.

“I think I was really mentally hard tonight,” Shelton told the media later. “I have to give Flavio credit, he did a lot of things throughout the match that made him difficult. I thought he played very well. He’s really fast, neutralizes a lot of things I do well, and that’s always a difficult match for me, so just happy to come through him.”
The battle intensified in extension, as Shelton gathered from 5-3 down to raise up and forced a switch with the 23-year-old.
It was not precisely what Cobolli had done, but when the pair met as the match ended, Shelton called the Italian for a gesture he made. Cobolli and Shelton had a long discussion with Cobolli saying he was not heading to Shelton, as he also said he was simply expressing disappointment to himself to destroy a lead.
“He simply made a gesture in Tiebreaker asking him about it. He said it was not right to me, so we are cute,” Shelton told court after the match.
The American was again printed on this issue again in his post -match interview and said, “He said it was not right. We are fine. We talked about it in the closet room, so I will no longer answer questions about it. There is no story, we are fine.”

Cobolli seemed to have the match in his hand, serving 5-4, 15-0 in the last set, but his fate went south from there. Italian Double blamed to giving Shelton two resting points and the American converted the second while Cobolli lost a broad preface to get the score in the 5th.
He held the next match to lead 6-5, and although destroyed a match point in the 12th match, Shelton dominated the subsequent connection to close the 2:24 victory.
“I’ve been able to get a second chance keeping my service and reaching the point where he had to serve it,” he said. “It’s not always easy, especially in a night like this where it is windy and not so hot, not dancing as high as it is during the day, to serve groups in the match. Same with me in the first set.
“It was a nervous match and it was difficult, I think a kind after I went through that game and, you know, being able to turn my energy level again where I wanted to be in it, and get a safe keeping in the 5th was big to me.”
