WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames will defend against #1 Hamzah Sheeraz on February 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Fans on social media grilled the 25-year-old Sheeraz for out-swinging the division’s #1 middleweight, IBF and WBO champion Janibek Alimkhanuly, whom the World Boxing Organization ordered him to fight. The fans feel that Sheeraz purposefully chose the weakest of the three.
Adames, who is considered the #3 champion. Hamzah has his reasons for choosing not to fight Janibek or WBA champion Erislandy Lara.
These would have been tough fights for the 6’3″ Hamzah, and he likely lost to both. Sheeraz obviously knows his limitations as a fighter, hence his choice of Adames rather than Janibek.
If Hamzah loses to Adames, he won’t get the free pass he would get if Janibek beats him. He could tell fans and the media that he fought the best if he lost to him. That same excuse is not there against Adames.
Salvador Rodriguez confirm the February fight between Sheeraz (21-0, 17 KOs) and Adames (24-1, 18 KOs).
