But that didn’t stop an LPGA star to get up on Thursday morning at Chevron Championship with an unusual case of pre-randy hunger. The reason why? The opportunity to compete against – and alongside – her childhood hero.
Haeran Ryu She was excited when she saw the pairing sheet for the first two rounds in the first part of the year because she discovered she would be paired with her Yani tseng. Ryu, now 24, grew up seeing Tseng, now 36, at the height of her powers, winning 5 main championships between 2008 and 2011. As a child in South Korea, Tseng was Ryu’s favorite player – and the model for much of her Pro play.

As she arrived at Carlton Woods on Thursday morning, Ryu made a point to introduce tseng and share some of Ryu’s memories watching Tseng along with her father.

There was a sweet irony in those memories of Ryu on Thursday at the Chevron Championship because again at home in her native Korea, her family was able to watch as SHE Arched at the top of the manager’s table along with her long hero.
Ryu fired a noise, the 65-year-old Thursday in Chevron, good enough for a tie for 18-holes in the main first of the season.
