Shakur Stevenson told his new mandatory O’Shaquie Foster that he “can have the (WBC lightweight) belt.” He said he was about to make more money against Teofimo Lopez than Foster “will ever make”.
Shakur tells Foster, “Take the belt”
Foster’s response to Shakur’s post was predictable, saying: “Man is afraid of me.” What else could he say in response to Stevenson revealing that he would give him the belt rather than fight him?
It didn’t take long for Shakur (24-0, 11 KOs) to start talking about vacating his WBC 135-pound title. Last Saturday, O’Shaquie Foster captured the WBC interim lightweight title, beating Stephen Fulton by a wide 12-round unanimous decision in San Antonio, Texas.
Immediately after winning the WBC interim belt, Foster (24-3, 12 KOs) called out Shakur and let him know he wanted to fight him. In response to Foster’s call, Stevenson told him that he would not fight him until he faced super featherweight Ray Ford. Using him as a barrier made Shakur appear weak and scared.
“That mandatory s*** means nothing. You can have that belt,” Shakur Stevenson said on social media that he might give up his WBC lightweight title rather than defend it against O’Shaquie Foster.
Why Shakur prefers Teofimo
“Do you know how much money I’m making in this fight? More than you will ever make in your life. Now, say, ‘Please,’ boy,” Shakur said, bragging about the money he’ll make in his next fight against Teofimo Lopez and wanting Foster to know he’ll never make that kind of dough.
“Buddy (Shakur) falls out, ready to drop the belt. Dude’s scared of me,” Foster said. X about Shakur.
With the money Stevenson is getting for his fight against Teofimo Lopez on Jan. 31, he won’t want to return to the lightweight division to take on Foster. He won’t be paid nearly as well, and he could lose. There is a very good chance that Stevenson will be beaten.
