Shakur Stevenson today unveiled his frustration with Theofimo Lopez on X and said he should “stop playing” and “sign the paperwork” for them to fight.
Lopez’s cryptic response
Earlier today, WBO Light Welterweight Champion TheOFIMO (22-1, 13 CO’s) expressed to WBC lightweight champion Shakur (24-0, 11 COs) and said: ‘What’s on, Gangsta’, with an emoji scoring for a fight on ‘140’.
It is impossible to know if Lopez is serious about wanting to fight Shakur, as he occasionally posted, and then became quiet for weeks at a time. Dazn Commenator Chris Mannix reported on X Last Friday, August 22, “There was no progress in talks for a Theofimo Lopez-Shakur Stevenson fight and Saudi officials continue. “
I really agree with the fight with the people who will fight, but you must stop playing and acting as you have agreed to the fight if you have not yet agreed, but on social media. Reach for their people and record the paperwork! @Toofimolopez

Shakur’s relentless pursuit
However, Stevenson does not show signs of giving up, and still places daily and requests Lopez to fight with him. The match room promoted Stevenson, who no longer has the option with big money he hoped against Gervonta Davis, because he signed on November 14 to fight Jake Paul in the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
It was the struggle that Stevenson and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, hoped he would take place next after Shakur’s 12-round victory over WBC Tus-Tus 135-pound champion William Zepeda on July 12.
Stevenson says Lamont Roach is his plan B option if he can’t get the fight against theofimo. Roach (25-1-2, 10 food) has a fight in the works against Gabriel Flores Jr. (27-2, 8 food) for later this year.
Andy Cruz, a high risk option
Shakur does have options outside Roach and Theofimo. The #1 ranking WBC contender, Andy Cruz, would be an ideal choice for Stevenson. He is not well known, and there is a lot of risk for Shakur to fight against him. Cruz is a 2020 Olympic gold medalist. He defeated Shakur’s close friend Keyhawn Davis in the final of those Olympics.
