Shakur Stevenson says Gervonta Davis should have chosen #3 WBA lightweight contender Edwin De Los Santos as his March 1 opponent instead of super featherweight Lamont Roach.
Stevenson isn’t saying why he thinks WBA 135-lb champion Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) chose De Los Santos (16-2, 14 KOs) as his next challenger, but it’s possible he wanted to see him struggle against him.
When that happens, Shakur can argue that he is on the same level as Tank or better. Look at it this way: Gervonta had to look poor against De Los Santos, which increases Shakur’s value because he looked terrible against him and ran all over creation.
Smart move
Gerovnta would do Stevenson’s dirty work for him by fighting De Los Santos, which would take the pressure off his shoulders to give him a rematch after their fight last year. If Tank knocks out De Los Santos, it gives Shakur an excuse not to fight him again. It’s sneaky.
Shakur defeated De Los Santos by a 12-round unanimous decision to capture the vacant WBC lightweight title more than a year ago on November 16, 2023 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. De Los Santos has not fought since.

The most accurate score of the three was 115-113 as De Los Santos came close to winning and likely would have if Shakur hadn’t been running the entire fight. Shakur said he was injured fighting, but he always fights like that, so his excuse didn’t hold water.

Tank,” Shakur Stevenson said to Bet On Yourself on their YouTube channel, saying Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis should have picked highly-rated lightweight contender Edwin De Los Santos instead of Lamont Roach Jr. to choose from the super featherweight division.
“I respect Lamont Roach as a fighter and I think he’s going to do well in the fight.
“I think Lamont Roach is a great fighter. I don’t think it’s going to be an easy night’s work for Tank. I think it’s going to be a tough fight, much tougher than people expect it to be. I think people are going to be surprised at how Lamont does in that fight.”
