Shakur Stevenson responded on social media to Ryan Garcia, who minimized the importance of his victory over William Zepeda, and trained criticism by referring his loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero.
No power, no danger
In an interview Friday, Garcia (24-2, 20 COs) said, “Shakur is not that good.” He then devalued at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York, at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York on July 12, 2025. He said Stevenson did not do well against ‘Power punchers’, which is why he struggled against Edwin de Los Santos.
Ryan argued that people had stopped Stevenson ‘in July in Queens, New York, in the bag against Zepeda. But they couldn’t understand that Zepeda couldn’t throw many shots and that it was just a few. That’s what Shakur did to win a decision.
I’m not angry with Ryan, how can I be? You embarrassed your last battle against Rollies. I went against a real Mexican fighter with a real Mexican style of fighting and hit him on his own game !! These are the levels that hit me when your first world title wins 🦾 https://t.co/rmvfisw2ii

Man just admitted he was afraid of Rolly Power, me bad because he thought it wasn’t the best version of him. That’s why you suck because power is not everything @Ryangarcia https://t.co/bpayPodx4h

Ryan did bring a good point during his interview with Cigar Talk, with his remark about Shakur doing well against volume punchers, but not slow. In the two fights that Stevenson had in his career against Punchers, against Edwin de Los Santos and Jeremiah Nakathilia, he was on his bicycle throughout.
The crowd bent both his performances. In fighting where Shakur volume fought against Zepeda, Josh Padley and Artem Harutyunyan, he remained in the bag.
Why Shakur ‘is not so good’
‘Talk about Shakur. Power Punchers does not emphasize his skills, but the guys who throw the volume emphasize it. The man is not that good. They followed it up, such as, ‘Oh yeah, he can stand in the bag now. “He stands in the bag because there is no danger. Cigar talkand the recent victory of Shakur Stevenson over William Zepeda on July 12, 2025, minimized.
