Floyd Schofield posted on social media that he received the contract and that it is a “done deal” for the next fight against Shakur Stevenson.
We are still waiting for Turki Alalshikh, Matchroom and Golden Boy to confirm that Shakur vs. Schofield was signed for February 22. Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) revealed on Saturday that he signed the contact. Today he posted the cryptic message, “Baby food,” which obviously refers to the 22-year-old Schofield.
Shakur’s call
2016 Olympic silver medalist Shakur looks happy because this is his baby, the one he wanted. For obvious reasons, Stevenson has shown no interest in fighting Andy Cruz or giving Edwin De Los Santos a rematch. He knows his limitations. Barring an injury to Shakur, Schofield is a safe pick with no real chance to win.
Some fans hoped His Excellency would veto Turki Shakur’s idea to defend against rookie Schofield and insist that Stevenson fight Andy Cruz or Raymond Muratalla. It would have stopped this horror from happening.
Fans are not happy
If the Stevenson vs. Schofield fight is announced, it could end badly for Kid Austin, making him, Oscar De La Hoya, Shakur and the fans look foolish. I say the fans because many of them will hype the Shakur-Kid Austin fight, believing it will be competitive, and they will be unhappy if it isn’t.
Schofield and his father, Floyd Sr., drove the process and pushed hard for the Shakur fight. They sound so sure of victory despite young Kid Austin’s complete lack of experience. He looked terrible in his last fight against second-ranked fighter Rene Tellez Giron on November 2nd. Fans believe the Schofields is thirsty. They know payday is going to be good.
People wouldn’t mind Schofield fighting Newark, New Jersey native Shakur for his WBC 135-lb title if he at least proved himself against some contenders, which he hasn’t.
Would it be asking too much for Kid Austin to beat two or three of these talents?
- Andy Cruz
- Raymond Muratalla
- Abdullah Mason
- William Zepeda
- Denys Berinchky

“I know I’ll be able to beat Shakur, and I’ve seen Floyd fight a little bit, and he’s a little bit of an aggressive fighter,” Jamaine Ortiz said. Battle hypetalks about his belief that Floyd Schofield will defeat Shakur Stevenson.
“I saw him get knocked down in his last fight, and he was able to get back up and finish it,” Jamaine said of Schofield’s last bout against Rene Tellez Giron on Nov. 2. “If he fights hard and puts pressure on Shakur, I think he can do very well and win the fight. I think Floyd can take him.”
