Shakur Stevenson calls out Theofimo Lopez: “Let’s make boxing wonderful again,” but what is his true motive?

Shakur Stevenson posted on social media today and called out Theofimo Lopez. Stevenson has challenged the WBO Light Welterweight champion, Theofimo, to “fight” him so they can “Make boxing again.” This is a phase that Shakur is starting to play out after his victory over William Zepeda.

Stevenson’s “Great Again” motif

When it comes to practice, he doesn’t try to make the sport “wonderful” because he won’t fight his number 1 WBC Top Counterder, such as Andy Cruz. So, Shakur uses the “Make Box again wonderful” slogan in a Self -service way when it suits him but not when he has to take a risk by fighting someone who can destroy His career.

Shakur’s right to Lopez Fight

Kur wants to cut corners, because theofimo gives him the title on a silverboard without earning it. In other words, he wants a handout of Lopez. The feeling of right of Shakur is obvious. He feels he deserves to skip the line because he beat Josh Padley, Artem Harutyunyan and William Zepeda.

There would not be a problem if Shakur connected to the 140 pound division and brought in the work like the other contenders waiting in line.

This is a strange call, as Shakur (24-0, 11 COs) recently said he doesn’t feel he has the size to fight at 140. For him to fight Theofimo (22-1, 13 COs) means that Stevenson is after money, not legacy. He became like other fighters, chasing dough rather than fighting the best in the lightweight section.

It would make sense for Shakur to try to weaken a battle of Theofimo once he hit these lightweights: Andy Cruz, Abdullah Mason, Floyd Schofield, Raymond Muratalla and Jadier Herrera.

Stevenson is supposed to heal his hands until November or 2026 after his grueling fight against Willim Zepeda. The Mexican volume puncher connected to 292 of 979 strokes and fought well enough to earn the decision.

Theofimo will not fight against “runners”

It’s a waste of time for Shakur to chase a payday against Lopez because it’s not going to happen. Theofimo does not fight runners. He doesn’t want to be involved in Tom and Jerry Fights. However, if Shakur moves to 140 and all the top contenders waiting, he can force a fight.
