Shakur Stevenson calls out Gervonta Davis after winning over William Zepeda

Shakur Stevenson (24-0, 11 COs) wasted no time to cry out Gervonta Davis after Shakur’s victory over William Zepeda (33-0, 27 food) Saturday night at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York.

Stevenson told the fans, “Let’s make boxing good again by placing the best against the best.” In other words, he considers himself the ‘best’, but he did not fight the other best fighters at 135. If he beats Zepeda with a set of strange scores, Shakur doesn’t make the ‘best’.

Zepeda Win: Enough for tank?

The world saw Zepeda’s two previous battles against Tevin Farmer, who probably did a better job against him than Stevenson did tonight. Farmer just did not get the celebrity treatment that Shakur did with these blow-out scores: 118-110, 118-110 and 119-109.

Is it a good resume for Shakur to claim a fight against Gervonta Davis? I don’t think so. It is a starting school for someone who just gets their feet wet as a newbie in the lightweight section. To share the ring with the king, Tank Davis, Shakur must fight much better fighters than this limited bunch.

Best versus the best question

“I’ve said who I want. The best versus the best. It must be my next battle. I said I am a dog. I’m a top-level, elite-level fighter, ”Shakur Stevenson said at the Press conference after battle Tonight when asked against whom he wants to fight next, and let the media know he wants Gervonta Davis.

Despite Shakur’s victory against Zepeda tonight, his resume remains thin in lightweight, and he does not have a lack of what many fans consider to be the top fighters. Zepeda’s previous two fights against Tevin Farmer, both razor, showed that he is not one of the top five lightweights.

These are the fighters who are better than Zepeda, and those that Stevenson has not fought yet. If I were to choose one out of this bunch that Shakur would fight to earn a tank Davis-Mega fight, it would be the 2020-year Olympic Medal andy Cruz Olympic. He is the man who is leagues above the other fighters in the division.

Stevenson has not fought against the top guys in the lightweight division since he came to the division in 2023. His win tonight against Zepeda was a good start, but it was not one of the talented lightweights of 135 pounds.
