Shakur Stevenson posted a photo of himself smiling with a triumphant look on his face after chatting with his friend Keyshawn Davis in the ring. He had a look on his face as if things went well in his session with Keyshawn.
A smile that says it all
Former WBO lightweight Keyshawn didn’t look happy. Some fans on social media suspect Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) dominated the ring-rusty Davis, who hasn’t fought in eight months since his fourth-round knockout victory over Denys Berinchyk on Feb. 14, 2025.
Shakur (28) is training for his fight with WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez in 2026. The fight is still under negotiation. Teo (22-1, 13 KOs) gave an update today, saying he was “annoyed” at the slow progress of the talks. He says “nothing is being done” with Stevenson’s paperwork. Lopez says that “everyone” blames him for the delay, but he says Shakur didn’t do his part of the contract.
Teofimo Lopez loses patience with delays
“I’m waiting too. I’m kind of annoyed. I didn’t expect it to take this long,” Teofimo Lopez told the 10-8 Podcast about the negotiations with Shakur Stevenson. “I already want to fight. There were some underlyings that me and my team were trying to clear before we got it right.”
Lopez cannot afford to invest too much time in this fight. He hasn’t fought since May 2, 2025, and he didn’t look impressive against Arnold Barboza Jr. by beating a 12-round unanimous decision. It seemed to some fans that Teofimo mimicked Shakur’s fighting style, backing down every time Barboza Jr. It was a dull fight, and it was a perfect copy of how Shakur performs.
Lopez vs. Stevenson: The waiting game continues
“I don’t even think they have paperwork for Shakur. Everyone is throwing it at me, but nothing has been done with Shakur yet. I’ve heard good news that it has to come to an end. Let’s just sit and wait. I’m maintaining, staying in the gym, working out, but I have to start camp soon. January is around the corner.
“I’ll just wait for those guys to do everything to announce it. All I know is we’re getting close to the wire. I’ve got to get my team and everybody here with me. We’ve got to start locking in,” says Teofimo.
