Shakur Makes Foster Wait – “Rabbit Got The Gun”

Taking to social media, Shakur Stevenson noted how it’s “no fun” now that he’s in the position of power, opting to postpone his WBC mandatory defense against interim champion O’Shaquie Foster.

Foster (24-3, 12 KOs) demanded that Shakur defend his WBC lightweight title against him after the Texas native defeated Stephen Fulton by a 12-round unanimous decision to capture the WBC interim title at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio last Saturday night.

Shakur shows off Power on X

“It’s not fun when the rabbit gets the gun,” Shakur Stevenson went on to say Xreflects on how he freezes out WBC interim lightweight champion O’Shaquie Foster

Responding to O’Shaquie’s request for a fight, Shakur told X, “Now I’m in the driver’s seat. I don’t have to evacuate s***, I just fought my mandatory (William Zepeda) my last fight.”

Stevenson moves the goalposts

To make matters even more complicated, Stevenson said that Foster now has to defeat his #3 contender at 130, Raymond Ford (18-1-1, 8 KOs), before he will agree to fight him. In other words, Foster has to earn his title shot against him, even though he already did that by defeating Fulton to capture the WBC interim 135-lb title to become his mandatory title.

“It’s all good, Sav (Raymond Ford), because he won’t get an opportunity with me until he fights you.. That WBC s*** doesn’t move me,” Shakur said, making it clear he wasn’t going to be forced to give Foster a title shot.

It doesn’t make sense for Shakur to insist that Foster fight super featherweight Ray Ford when he is now at lightweight and already in position to challenge for his WBC title.

Turki Money & Safe Matchmaking

Boxing fans on social media are taking Stevenson’s behavior as a sign that he is afraid to face O’Shaquie and possibly lose to him. If he gets beat by him, it could end the huge million+ paydays that Turki Alalshikh has been giving him since last year. He paid Shakur top dollar for no-risk fights against Josh Padley and William Zepeda.

Shakur was good at fighting the guys because he obviously knew he had no worries about losing. But now that he was facing someone who could dry up that oil money who got into the barrels and filled his bank account without risking his skin.

If Stevenson loses to Foster, he can be replaced by him on Turki’s cards. We would have a replacement and one that didn’t need to be protected.

Turki did not insist that Shakur put himself in danger. He could have shown Shakur some tough love by telling him that if he wants the millions, he has to fight guys like Foster, Andy Cruz, Floyd Schofield and Abdullah Mason.
