“I’ve missed so many things like the @glamourmag Woman of the Year awards, @RafaelNadal’s retirement and I’m still recovering but getting better,” Serena posted. “Health is always first”. T
he 43-year-old Serena, who won 73 career singles titles, said in the video that she first noticed a lump on her neck last May.
“In May I found a lump on my neck,” Serena said in the TikTok video. “I immediately went to the doctor, got an MRI and was told I have a brachial cyst. Have you ever heard of this?
“They said I don’t need to take it out if I don’t want to. So I didn’t take it, but it kept growing. I decided to do more tests, and three tests and a biopsy later everything is still negative, but the doctors advised me to take it out as soon as possible because it was the size of a small grapefruit and could be infected or worse leaking.”
Serena said the procedure to remove the cyst was successful.
“So I’m getting (the cyst) removed,” Serena said. “I feel very grateful and lucky that everything went well, and above all I am healthy.”
It’s been a busy time for the 23-time Grand Slam champion.
Serena was named woman of the year by glamor and the stars on the cover of The essence.
