Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada retires after 13 years as prof

In a surprise move, Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada (26-0, 9 KOs) announced her retirement after 13 years as a pro in the sport.

The 32-year-old undisputed bantamweight world champion leaves boxing at the top of the game following her recent 10-round unanimous decision win over IBF and WBO bantamweight champion Yokasta Valle on March 29 in Glendale, Arizona.

It is unclear why Estrada is stepping down after capturing the undisputed crown, as she is at the top of her game, and her earning power will be higher than ever. However, she may think that the goal she wants to achieve is to win the four belts at minimum weight. Everything else will be more about maintenance.

13 years is a long career for anyone in the sport, and for many fighters who reach that point, that’s when they start to consider retirement. It is a rare person who moves on when they reach their early 30s.

Born in East Los Angeles, Estrada has had a solid run over the past three years, capturing the WBO bantamweight title with a ten-round unanimous decision win over Anabel Ortiz in March 2021.

In July 2021, Estrada defeated WBO women’s junior flyweight champion Tenkai Tsunami and then captured the WBC women’s bantamweight title with a 10-round unanimous decision victory over Tina Rupprecht.

“Seniesa Estrada is a spectacular person and fighter, and I know she can look forward to a happy and productive life outside the ring,” said promoter Bob Arum. “Everyone in the top rankings will miss promoting her boxing career.”

Estrada’s next career move is unclear. She’s apparently been in a movie before, and that might be something she plans to do. There is also the possibility to work as a boxing commentator. It would be an obvious choice for Estrada to go in next.
