Just mention Scotty Cameron Tour Prototypesand you’ve caught the attention of a bunch of golf equipment nerds everywhere.
So Titleist is giving gear nerds what they want with the release of Scotty Cameron’s new Studio Xperimental Limited gear.
Studio Xperimental Limited Publishing offers new editions of Squareback and Fastback forms from Studio style line with some Tour-inspired modifications, including a steel gray finish and hydraulic Fastback neck.
“Studio Xperimental is all about sharing something special with players: prototype-inspired setups designed for those looking for performance and technology with a clean, tour-proven look,” founder Scotty Cameron said in a release. “With the line’s multi-material design, chainlink face milling, unique alignment features, and custom grip and shaft, every element of the Studio Xperimental is designed to inspire confidence—from setup to shot.”

What is Studio Xperimental Limited?
The name Xperimental is nothing new to Scotty Cameron fans. The name is often used for tour-only prototype models for the world’s best players, but some of those that do make it to retail either as a limited release or as a one-off creation in the Scotty Cameron Gallery.

With the new Studio Xperimental Limited, Cameron is giving consumers a chance to try the new mid-hammer shapes in the Studio Style line in several configurations that have proven popular on the PGA Tour.
Both putters feature hydraulic I-beam necks, a tour-favorite gray steel PVD finish, a custom black graphite shaft and parallel topline sight lines. For the Fastback, which is named Fastback 2 to indicate the neck style, this is the first time the barrel is available to the public with a plumber’s neck. The current Studio Style line features only the Fastback (with a twist) and the Fastback 1.5 (I-beam jet neck).
The graphite shaft is also a rarity for a Scotty Cameron retail release, even a limited one. In fact, it is believed to be the first time since the 1993-94 Masters Choice Classic 1 Limited Run that a Cameron release has featured a graphite shaft.

The limited run shooters also have the same carbon steel Studio face insert with chainring face milling from the Studio Style versions, but this is black nickel plated to match the Gri Steel PVD finish.
Who are Studio Xperimental installers for?
Scotty Cameron fans and all kinds of gear will be clamoring for this release. However, new players Studio Xperimental will cater to some special players.
Players who prefer darker finished machines, such as the recently released Phantom Black plates or the 2012-2013 Select line, will appreciate the muted, less reflective tones of Steel Gray PVD. The darker finish is a common request on Tour.

But what may be the most sought after is the Fastback 2, as the Fastback shape has not yet been available with the hydraulic neck. The Fastback is a more rounded head and suits the eyes of players who like softer lines, while the Squareback – as the name implies – is more angular.
My thoughts
The new Fastback and Squareback models have proven to be very popular both on Tour and in the retail market, so it’s no surprise that Cameron threw some new options at consumers in the form of a limited release.

Personally, I’ve always been drawn to darker finished machines, and the two-tone horizontal alignment aids of the standard Studio Style versions aren’t something I need, so it’s nice to see a mostly monochromatic version of these new shapes. What’s interesting is that Cameron offers a flipped version of the retail stock—a black putter with silver alignment aids—at the Tour, so it’s obvious they went with the one-color version.
Scotty Cameron Phantom Black setter | 3 things to know about the new line
Jack Hirsch
Scotty Cameron will usually highlight next year’s product features in their end of season releases – as they apparently did with Phantom Black — and the Studio Style line is likely to receive OTHER USEFUL extension in 2026. Will this include the Fastback 2? We won’t know for a while, it seems.
It also seems clear that Cameron is going all in with the SCS insert and chain link model. Chain mill has been part of every Scotty Cameron release this year.
