Scotty Cameron has two new limited edition Studio Xperimental gadgets coming your way this Halloween. Although not Halloween-related, their gray-and-black aesthetic makes these studio-style mods visually appropriate for the spooky season.
Although the paws do not have ghosts and goblins, there is a bit of Frankenstein in them. Dr. Cameron has combined parts of various Cameron cameras into his new creation Studio Xperimental. It also added a whole new element to construction.
Add a pinch or two of Cameron’s flair for form to the builds, and you end up with nothing remotely monstrous.
What has Cameron created?
At their core, two limited edition Studio Xperimental devices are the Squareback and Fastback models from 2025 line of Studio style digs.
Many of the key components for that braid line are present in the limited edition Studio Xperimental gear. For example, inserting the Studio Karbon Steel (SCS) page and grinding its chain link page with a nice feel.
Cameron’s crew has changed some of the stock elements for this release. The SCS insert is coated with a black-nickel finish. A dark steel gray PVD coating covers the stainless steel parts of the cutter.
The change from available silver to steel gray PVD reduces contrasting lines at the address of a touch. However, contrasting horizontal bands with many materials are still visible for alignment.
Two Scotty Cameron Studio Xperimental Limited models
Of the two models, the Scotty Cameron Studio Xperimental Limited Squareback 2 is closer to the stock model. As I mentioned, the overall color scheme is different and a double line on the top edge replaces the stock single line.
The aluminum soleplate is also different, depicting the Xperimental logo instead of the Studio Style station graphic.
Not much has changed, but it’s definitely a cool looking shooter.
The Scotty Cameron Studio Xperimental Limited Fastback 2 is a little different as a Fastback 2 was not part of the stock line. This version of the Fastback has a hydraulic neck instead of the stock sloping or needle neck options.
Adding a new neck option may not seem like much, but it gives players a convenient extra option. As happened with the release of models Phantom 5.2 and Phantom 7.2the plumber’s neck provides an intermediate amount of toe sag. The Scotty Cameron Studio Xperimental Limited Fastback 2 will also be available in a left-handed configuration.
The most interesting experiment is the axis
While I think both heads are attractive designs, it was the new graphite shaft that really caught my eye.
Graphite shafts are growing in popularity. It stands to reason that Cameron’s team would eventually release their own spin on the graphite shaft.
Unfortunately, I don’t have much information on the new graphite shaft. Cameron says it’s slightly counterbalanced and is expected to improve stability and responsiveness.
Hopefully this release is just a teaser for what’s to come from Cameron in 2026. Fingers crossed that the graphite shaft will be in retail offerings.
Does Xperimental have enough content for your money?
As with all limited edition Scotty Cameron makers, I expect these to sell out on October 31st when they hit the market worldwide. Collectors won’t even blink at the $850 MSRP.
While these are cool stock versions, I was expecting them to be a bit more Xperimental.
All the Phantom Black machines were very new models, some of them to the point of looking like completely new machines.
Regardless, these are still interesting looks for stock models.
The Studio Xperimental aesthetic suits my style, the new shaft is a compelling curiosity, and the Fastback 2 with its new hydraulic neck would suit my stroke. For these reasons, I would definitely consider getting that model.
