As zero-torque and low-torque options began to flood the market, one major player sat back and observed the growing trend.
But on Tuesday, Scotty Cameron unveiled his new OC — short for Onset Center — pawls, finally entering the low-torque setup space. The OC neck design is being released as an option in two head shapes in the Studio style and Phantom lineups: Fastback OC and Phantom 11R OC.
“In recent years, we’ve seen an increasing number of golfers who want to minimize the sensation of face spin at impact through putter configuration,” Scotty Cameron Senior Director of Putter Research and Development Austie Rollinson said in a release. “And as a designer, what excites me most about the OC is that it gives players options. Now we have a completely new setup for golfers who want to feel a square, straight-back fairway.
“We designed our OC models to minimize face roll while maintaining responsiveness and responsiveness.”

What are Scotty Cameron OC putters?
It should surprise no one that Scotty Cameron was one of the last major manufacturers to enter the low-torque stock market, doing so more than a year after competitors like Bettinardi, Toulon Golf and Odyssey.

“The way the Cameron brand works, they don’t want to rush into something,” Andrew Thomas, Cameron’s Senior Marketing Manager, told GOLF. “They want to be deliberate and methodical about how they approach a specific technology in the barrel.
“I think Scotty himself wanted to observe this and see, is this going to be a fad? Is it really something? And as we’ve seen over the last year or so, it really is something.”
For Cameron, the new OC models are not a new family of necks, but rather expansions of the drawflow and neck offerings in their existing Studio Style and Phantom lines.
As Rollinson began to receive feedback from Tour players about low-torque models, Rollinson continued to hear that playing low-torque—commonly referred to as “zero torque”—putting often meant sacrificing feel. Because of this, Cameron’s OC designs place a clear priority on feeling and maintaining a traditional setup.
Both of them Fastback OC AND Phantom 11R OC the legs differ from their base models with a center pivot design that places the axle shaft directly through the CG of the head. But they’re also 15g heavier with slightly stiffer shafts designed to accommodate the increased weight without dulling the feel.

To maintain a more traditional look and setup position, the putters only have one degree of shaft tilt, allowing them to use conventional handles.
Unlike other low-torque options on the market, Onset Center gauges don’t have the shaft go directly into the head, meaning that lie and weak shaft – hence loft – can be adjusted. Cameron says any adjustments would have no effect on the gauge’s low-torque properties.
The putters feature Cameron’s new Chain Grind design, a key feature of all of Cameron’s recent releases, and the Fastback model features the new Studio Carbon Steel insert, a material that Cameron says is one of the softest he’s ever used.
The Phantom 11R shape also shows more rounded edges than the current Phantom 11 joints, similar to Cameron Young’s Phantom 9.5R putter.
Who are the Scotty Cameron OC inserts for?
Thomas was adamant that the new OC options and low torque putters in general are not a silver bullet and not for every golfer out there.
But for players who have a more natural square-to-square shot, the new OC options will complement that nicely.
With the heavier head weight, chain grinding and SCS insert in the fastback option, the low torque Cameron models are certainly positioned for players who like a smoother feel.

My thoughts!
It was only a matter of time before Scotty entered the low-end torque conversation, and the entry is exactly what we expected.
Moving forward, it’s likely that you’ll start to see many OEMs distance themselves from the “zero torque” terminology, as Cameron is here, because these devices aren’t actually zero torque. It’s good to see an OEM acknowledging this right at the launch of a new product. Cameron has specifically stated that they understand that as soon as human hands are on the trigger, a certain amount of torque will be introduced.
The statement here with OC is that these two models are now the lowest torque offerings from Scotty Cameron with the greatest ability to keep the head pounding during delivery.
In terms of feel, these barrels definitely live up to the Scotty Cameron name. I haven’t decided if I’m fully on the low-torque train yet, but I’ve been playing around with the Fastback OC. I’ve found that it has a very similar feel to my Catalina Studio, which has been my go-to player.

Custom Scotty Cameron Style Studio Fastback OC Putter
An extension of the popular Studio Style Fastback design, the Studio Style Fastback OC is a low-torque model that features the same ring-weight, high-stretch, multi-material design of other Fastback models, but with Scotty’s tour-proven OC technology package. Featuring the initial placement of the center axis behind the leading edge of the throwing face, the straight axis is positioned exactly in line with the CG location of the thrower’s head and tilted 1° forward. This allows for low-torque performance and face alignment that stays square with the trail. STUDIO STEEL CARBON (SCS) FACE INSERT The Studio Style Fastback OC features a chain-milled carbon steel (SCS) insert for smooth sound and feel, treated with an electrodeless nickel coating for added durability with aerospace-inspired vibration damping for tuned sound, feel and performance. CUSTOM BLACK SHAFT Custom designed for the new OC machines, each model includes a special KBS x Scotty Cameron black shaft with optimal flex, unhindered reach and precise feel. CUSTOM MATADOR GRIP With an integrated chainlink texture, each new OC gauge includes a custom 11-inch Matador mid-size grip in black with bright red and cool gray accents.

Scotty Cameron 2025 Phantom 11R OC Custom Putter
Inspired by prototype models made for tournament players, the Phantom 11R OC – “R” for “round” and “OC” for “launch center” – is a new Phantom hammer with rounded corners in a revolutionary low-torque package. With a straight shaft installed directly in line with the model’s CG, the Phantom 11R OC is designed with a heavier head to ensure high stability while maintaining very low torque during impact. CHAIN-LAW FACE MILLING TECHNOLOGY The chain-link face milling technology structure reduces ball-to-ball face contact points to dampen sound and improve spin characteristics while maintaining feel and optimizing feedback.
