Rory Mcilroy was not the only pro -changing driver’s heads this week.
At his press conference after PGA championship profit For his third career title, Scottie Scheffler revealed his driver was tested by the USA before the event and he was forced to use a spare head.
“Testing the driver is something that regularly happens on the tournament,” Scheffler said after winning with five in Quail Hollow. “My driver failed me this week. We had a feeling that it would come because I used that driver for more than a year. I was a kind of luck for it to last so long.”
Scottie Scheffler reveals that he also failed a driver’s conformity test this week and calls for “more powerful” protocols in driver testing at PGA Tour.

Xander Schauffle first alludo in Scheffler’s driver exchange in an interview with Golf Early Sunday. Schauffle said he thought Scheffler “passed into his copy, Also. “
The matter was a hot topic since Friday, when it was reported Mcilroy’s driver failed in a test and he was also using a spare head.
Driver testing and backup is nothing new. Given the speed at which pro Tour Pros shakes drivers and how often they hit the same place on the face, the material on the face decreases over time, leading to the face providing more spring -like effect and becoming “faster”. The phenomenon is known as “crawling”.
PGA Tour created its current 30 driver test policy with USA Weekdo weekly, but based on Darrelli’s survey information, meaning that there would be a representative sample of manufacturers based on how many drivers each manufacturer had in the game. Leaders are measured for CT (Characteristic time), which is a measurement of the facial spring effect, at multiple facial points.
This week, Kerry Haigh, the PGA of the leading official of the American Championship, said in a statement that USA tested drivers from approximately one -third of the field this week.
Drivers who do not reach the tests are not abnormal, especially for those who have played a driver for an extended period of time, like both Scheffler and Mcilroy, who were using the Tayormad’s Qi10 (dot) heads since last year.
‘Wasn’t that great for a deal’
With a new head in the game this week, Scheffler ended up the fifth in the field in the winning strokes: Tee-to-Green and was largely in control of his ball with the big stick, with the exception of a few left losses to start the last round of Sunday.
So naturally, Scheffler was asked after the round if his new driver had any connection to the withdrawals.
“I think it was my fault,” he said, winning laughter from the room. “The driver to me is really easy. As I said, we were prepared for him.”

Scheffler said he and the top manager of the Tayormade tournament Adrian Rietveld tested two weeks ago in front of Byron Nelson, a Scheffler tour won by five to find a suitable copy as he knew his gamer’s longevity was coming to an end.
“The team in Taylormade, Adrian, did a really good job,” he said. “We were really focused on his return to that tournament and that. Adrian, he did a great job making me suitable for a head. As I said, we were really prepared. So it was not so great for a deal.”
This is a typical practice for tour professionals and their repetitions. Schauffle mentioned that no more is a big thing since then Tournament winners are so good In finding many driver players to use.
‘Probation boys every week’
Despite being one of the players forced to make a change this week due to testing rules, Scheffler called for new protocols to go further for driver testing.
“I would argue that if we test the drivers, we need to be even stronger in the way we test them,” Scheffler said. “This was a conversation I had with one of the rules officials; if it’s something we will take seriously, I feel like we’re going almost halfway with her now.
“If we are going to test only one -third of the field. If we do it properly, leave us as players as the rest of the rules in the Golf game are.

“It’s a newer rule we haven’t got well. I think we have some things to understand. I think, if we do it, we can also do it properly, get stronger and get even stricter. You can try boys every week, if I don’t mean, there is no reason why we shouldn’t.”
While testing each driver may not sound unjustable, it would actually be easy to accomplish, even for a full field of 144 or 156 players. The tests last only about 10 to 15 minutes, but they have to remove it from everyone on Monday and Tuesday as you cannot leave a player with a day’s notice or less than they have to change drivers.
