Schofield: Shakur Stevenson and Haney aren’t ‘who they say they are’

Floyd Schofield downgraded Shakur Stevenson when asked if reports were true that he punched the New Jersey native during sparring with him and Devin Haney. Undefeated #2 WBA lightweight contender Schofield (17-0, 12 KOs) says the sparring made him realize that Shakur and Haney are not “who they say they are.” When Schofield made that comment, he wore a devilish grin that suggested he beat both guys.

Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) didn’t take kindly to being defeated by the 22-year-old Schofield, and he took to social media to tell him and his followers that he messaged him afterwards, saying said: “I I’m the best boxer he’s ever seen.”

While that may sound good coming from Shakur, the young upstart Schofield may have just blown smoke up his back to give him false flattery in a political way without really meaning to. It sounds like he sympathized with Shakur by giving him false praise after working him in sparring action. Schofield has a political air about him. He’s not going to let anyone tell the truth the way other fighters do, but in this interview he made it clear that Haney and Shakur aren’t that good.

If you talk to Schofield, you can tell that he is polite and doesn’t grill his opponents. For Schofield to say that he found out that Shakur and Haney weren’t who they said they were, you have to believe that it was an unfiltered moment where he gave him real thoughts.

With Schofield’s power, speed and punching style, it’s easy to imagine him beating Shakur and Haney in sparring, because guys will have nothing to stop a talent like him. Shakur & Haney are fighters who have no balance in their game.

They are all defense and no offense, so they are not popular and never will be. Schofield has a much better chance of being a star than any of those fighters because he has an entertaining style. To become a star in boxing or any sport, you have to entertain. That’s the name of the game now. Boring fighters of the past, like Mayweather, wouldn’t cut it in this era.

“Lil bro was in my DMs right after the one spar we had and told me I was the best boxer he ever saw..@KidAustin11. These cameras are going to get you exposed. Stop limiting so much,” Shakur Stevenson said Xin response to Floyd Schofield saying that he and Devin Haney are not who they say they are after talking to them.

“I’m not going to talk about sparring, but I’ll just say that it was sparring that made me realize that these guys are not what they say they are,” said Floyd Schofield. Fight Hub TV when asked if it was true that he beat Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney in sparring.

It is up to fans to determine which of the two fighters is telling the truth. Given the way Schofield talks, you have to believe it’s him. He is a straight shooter.

Schofield will face Rene Tellez Giron (20-3, 13 KOs) in a 12-round main event at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas this Saturday, Nov. 2. The event will be shown on DAZN.
