#2 WBA lightweight contender Floyd Schofield will look for more experience in his 12-round headliner against Rene Tellez Giron this Saturday night, November 2nd at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The event will be shown live on DAZN.

Schofield (17-0, 12 KOs) is set to challenge WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis for his title next. Tank should have picked him for his next title defense rather than super featherweight Lamont Roach.
Giron (20-3, 13 KOs) comes into Saturday’s fight on a three-fight winning streak since losing a 10-round unanimous decision to Jose Matias Romero in a competitive fight last June. The 25-year-old Giron has a pressing style that will force Schofield to adapt as this will not be one of the easy fights he has become accustomed to.
Giron also lost to Giovanni Cabrera in 2022, losing a 10-round unanimous decision. Cabrera is the most notable opponent Giron has faced, and he has come up short.
Schofield wants title shot
“Being #2 in the WBA is a dream come true. I have worked for this all my life. So when an opportunity presents itself, I’m going to be more than ready,” says Floyd Schofield Fight Hub TV over the ramp for a world title against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis.
PBC is unlikely to choose to match Tank Davis against Golden Boy-promoted Schofield because he’s not with the same network, and he doesn’t fit the description of the typical opponent the Baltimore native has matched up against during his career . If Schofield shows some vulnerability against Giron and barely wins, it could increase his chances of being selected by Tank’s management.
“Yes, I am. I dedicate my life to this sport. I’m not afraid of anybody,” Schofield said when asked if he was ready to move to the next level after his fight against Tellez on Saturday night. “Yes, I am (ready to challenge WBA lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis).
“I train hard. I don’t think anyone is afraid of him. I should have gotten the fight (against Tank) before Lamont Roach, but if we get through Rene, we’ll see who has Golden Boy next. Who knows? If the opportunity arises next year, we will be more than ready.”
DAZN Main Undercard
In the main support match, super middleweight contender Bektemir Melikuziev (14-1, 10 KOs) will fight David Stevens (14-1, 10 KOs) in a 10-round WBA 168-lb title eliminator. The winner of this fight will be the mandatory challenger for champion Canelo Alvarez.
IBF flyweight female champion Gabriela Fundora (14-0, 6 KOs) fights WBA, WBC and WBO unified champion Gabriela Alaniz (15-1, 6 KOs) in a 10-round undisputed contest.
Super middleweight prospect Darius Fulghum (12-0, 10 KOs) takes on Christopher Pearson (17-4-1, 12 KOs) in a 10-round contest. The 28-year-old Fulghum is a big puncher with a lot of potential. However, at 28, Fulghum will need to be moved at a faster pace if he is to take advantage of the time he has left in his career.
Welterweight prospect Joel Iriarte (4-0, 4 KOs) fights Xavier Madrid (5-5, 2 KOs) in a 10-round contest.
