In an interview with the Press Trust of India (PTI), Taylor highlighted how the landscape has changed dramatically in just one year. According to him, Indian women’s cricket is moving beyond its traditional reputation for elegance and timing, embracing power and athleticism at an unprecedented pace.
“They’re on their way. It’s scary where the girls were last year and where they are now.” Taylor said. “The power coming into the domestic game here is unbelievable. In five years, India will absolutely fly.”
Taylor noted that even players who don’t look physically strong now clear the ropes with ease – something that was less common in the Indian women’s game a few years ago.
According to Taylor, one of the most striking changes is the normalization of six strokes along the inner circuit. He noted that young Indian batters are no longer physically limited when it comes to power generation.
“You have young girls who are small but hit straight sixes” he explained. “This power wasn’t part of the game before.”
Taylor believes this change is a direct result of better training methods, increased confidence and regular exposure to high-quality competition – elements that WPL brings together in a single ecosystem.
WPL: The perfect launchpad for India’s global success
Taylor highlighted that the WPL has come at a perfect time for India, especially with the Women’s T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in England later this year. He believes the league prepares Indian players for the pressures of elite tournaments by replicating high-stakes environments.
“They play under the lights, in intense games, against some of the best players in the world.” Taylor said. “They watch how the top international players go about their cricket and pick up little tidbits.”
Experience, he added, ensures that young Indian players go into the World Cup with confidence rather than intimidation. “These girls going to the World Cup should have no problem. They’ve been there, done that.”

It also singled out emerging names like Taylor Anushka Sharma As a symbol of India’s promising future. He praised the hunger to learn among the young players, calling it the driving force behind their rapid development.
“They want to learn and that’s the best thing” he said. “They’re only going to get better.”
According to Taylor, a combination of raw talent, exposure and a growth mindset could make India one of the most dominant forces in women’s cricket in the next decade.

Apart from the WPL, Taylor also reflected on his international career, clarifying that his decision to step down from his England role at the age of 30 was not just about mental health, as is widely believed. Instead, he said it comes down to clarity around options and contracts.
“From a factual point of view, given the meetings that took place, I knew I wasn’t going to be offered a contract,” he said. “I didn’t particularly want this meeting, and it turned into saying, ‘Okay, I’m done.'”
