LEEDS ABBEY DASH 10km, November 30

The event lived up to its reputation as a supplier of times to overhaul the rankings and James McMurray led hundreds of people looking for personal bests home with a blistering second half in just 14:02 as he won the elite race in 28:52.

It meant the St Albans runner not only retained the Leeds title but also shaved eight seconds off his previous best set a year ago here and was some compensation for a disappointing run in the Euro trials a week ago.

The early pace, led by Leeds pair Gavin Taylor and Ed Bovington in 14:49 for the first 5km, was not indicative of the events to come in the second half where faster splits were the order of the day.

At the halfway point the group of 14 runners broke up and were separated for a few seconds before things settled down on the way back to the finish line.

There was a strong pursuit over the line by Aldershot’s Josh Grace in 29:56 as Ollie Lockley and Gavin Taylor followed, but they were out by 29 minutes.

In her first 10km outing in nine years, Melissa Courtney-Bryant was a comfortable elite women’s race winner in 31:37. It was also the Poole AC runner’s first race since the 5000m at the World Championships in Tokyo, where he failed to repeat his 14:48.20 from Los Angeles back in May.

Second-placed Samantha Harrison ran 32:18 in the first race since her 2:29:44 at the Berlin Marathon in September, while third-placed Louise Small matched her 33:34.

The open race saw a further 26 finish under 31 minutes with Jacob Harrison winning in 30:03 after a 15:12 first 5km.

Molly Smith won the women’s division in 33:33 by nearly a minute over Katie O’Rourke.

Jack Kavanagh (James Rhodes)

FRIDAY NIGHT UNDER THE LIGHTS, Battersea Park, London, 28 November

Jack Cavanagh has had an impressive run of wins throughout 2025 and the Dutchman added to his portfolio with a comfortable if relatively narrow win over Joe Wigfield in 13:34.

It was third-placed Cameron Allen who led at the end of the first lap along with Gorge Wheeler as Wigfield, Kavanagh and Joe Tuffin were included, with Joe Brisley and Henry McLuckie also featuring.

In 27th place, Tonbridge’s Ben Cole clocked 14:24, the fastest M40 time for more than five years, to top the 2025 M40 list and third on the all-time list for his age group, as 57 men broke the 15-minute barrier.

The women’s race was won by BUCS 5000m silver medalist Charlotte Dunnatt, who led most of the way despite being followed by Holly Dixon and Lucy Jones at half distance.

The time of 15:37 was a comfortable personal best for Danath, 24 seconds better than her previous mark.

American Taryn Rawlings and Emily Haggard-Kearney were also on the ride and it was the pair who provided Danat with her closest challenge as the others dropped back.
