It’s no secret that most people despise slow game, but you know who doesn’t like the most? The fast players to deal with.
The pace of the game has always been a hot topic in Pro Golf, and most recently LPGA announced changes To try and speed the game on its tour. We will see if this help when the LPGA puts them in the country at the Ford Championship on March 27, but for now, everyone has thoughts. Many have solutions as well.
Sam Burns, who is one of the fastest players in the tournament, was the guest on this week’s episode Podcast Subpar of GolfAnd he explained the “many problems” that come with a slow game.
For beginners, he said, when playing in the trio, sometimes there is little incentive to play quickly, as most players know that they will eventually have to wait at one point anyway. Although he estimated that the players played each shot about five seconds faster, while in the dozen as there is less waiting in your group in general.

“How much can we really speed up in the trio. Maybe 10 or 15 minutes?” Burns said. “Well, what does this mean? This will not do much, but when we play in two and is four hours, this is a big difference.
“I think some boys are slow and it is disappointing because when I play with those boys and it’s their turn to hit, it’s like, what have you done for the last minute? You don’t even have your number, you don’t know what club you will hit, I don’t understand.”
Burns said the problem is difficult to solve because there are so many factors, like the size of the field, the difference between dozens and trio and slow individuals.
“I will say, there is no reason you have to have four times to be fined, for beginners,” he said. “I also think that fines for many boys don’t mean anything. You can fine a $ 50,000 boy and he really doesn’t care so much. You start getting the FedEx Cup points away and that means much more to someone. If we really want to fix the pace of game things-and I think it’s a bigger issue that I think of people-worth. are the points of FedEx Cup, perhaps disappearing from your category of time and further.
Burns had a very bold solution, however. He said that everyone – players, rules of officials, etc. – know who is fast and who is slow. So why can slow players not be separated immediately?
“If we are really serious about it, why are we not as soon as possible for the slow player to leave, put it in hours and let us know what is at an hour,” Burns said. “You think he will continue to play slowly if you know he is at hours? I don’t think so. We know you are slow, but why are we just waiting until something happens or your group get something to do something? Because if I’m playing with two slow boys and we settled in hours and let’s say I have a ruling or a bad hole, then I am not really trying. So I think this can be disappointing for boys who are usually fast players. “
