control each week For the unjustified thoughts of our writers and editors as they break down the hottest themes in this sport, and join in the conversation by tweeting us to us in @golf_com. This week, we discuss Ryder Cup motorists, who can collect the choice of a captain, the LIV championship format and more.
Scottie Scheffler won the second match of Play -Ffit of FedEx CupThe BMW Championship, but we also know the six vehicle qualifiers for the US Ryder Cup team: Scheffler, JJ Spaun, Xander Schauffle, Russell Henley, Bryson Dechambeau and Harris English. What is your biggest intake from this week?
Stolen chip with Scottie Scheffler’s spirit was different in all the right ways
James Colgan
Josh Sens, elderly writer (@Jossens). That we can add an article to life list: death, taxes and scottie scheffler. But also (despite Scheffler) Europeans have a stronger team of automatic qualifiers than the US on paper, however.
James Colgan, the editor of news and features (@Jamescolgan26) :: In addition to Scheffler 4x-Ing, his counterparts Ryder Cup at the point? I learned that the Americans are lucky that Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa did not throw dechog dechambeau. Bryson was a blockage all the time, and his automatic qualification status calms what could have been a tired news cycle of his deserving.
Nick Pastowski, high editor (@nickpia) :: Scottie Scheffler is really, really, really good. And he is showing that this can take a while. And that Robert Macintyre against Bethpage boys and girls will be delightful. (But let’s keep it clean, gang.)
American Captain Keegan Bradley Will round out his team with the six captain’s elections after next week’s tour championship. This means that East Lake is the most important for which Ryder Cup with hope?

Josh sense: It’s a jump for me between Cam Young and Ben Griffin. Both have shown good form this year, especially late young people. Young, in particular, has sounded like a man shaking in a little, after passing to Rome and now with the Ryder Cup coming to his home state, and a course where he won the state.
Colgan: I think it’s griffin, who is safe inside the top-12, but wants to remove all doubts. But don’t leave Sam Burns, as, who woke up on Sunday at the 16th in the US rankings and has the benefit of Ryder Cup’s previous experience and a close friendship with Scottie Scheffler to help his candidacy.
Pastowski: It’s the captain himself. Wrap in Top 10, and Bradley chooses yourself three days later. Finish on the 28th, and there are some doubts. A quick conclusion in BMW did not exactly inspire it by being chosen, but a strong run in the tour championship will.
Sam Burns completed T4 in BMW and Rickie Fowler finished T7, though both, especially Fowler, are further below Ryder Cup’s ranking. But if you are a captain, how do you balance taking someone higher in the rankings against someone in the best shape?
Joshow
Sense: As a connector, I would look further on the historical record. How did they perform them in these types of pressure stoves? Burns went 1 and 2 to Rome and generally did not cut the profile of a killer closer. Fowler has a 3-9-5 Ryder Cup career record In short, I would surely look at both
Colgan: I think the goal is to select the twelve best players. If No. 11 on your list suddenly could not be spoiled 90, I would think about the last form. Otherwise, I would allow the last 6 months to serve as a much better test.
Pastowski: I would surely take a look – but then why do I have the attitudes at all? If you bought in this far, there is no need to change things. That is to say, I would probably be ligated toward the hottest hand with elections 11 and 12 than go with the point system (unless, of course, the hot hand is also 11 or 12). Burns also has the benefit of being close friends with the world no. 1, and you want to keep that man happy.
Joaquin Niemann won five of the 13 Liv Golf events in 2025, however it was Jon Rahm who claimed the Livi’s Individual Livi Championship After a Sunday racing end in Indianapolis. Are you good with the format and rahm winning the general title, or does Niemann lose despite winning something five times is not right?
Winless Jon Rahm Conflicted for Livi season title victory, bonus $ 18 mil
Makclourg
Sense: This does not sit properly. Prioritizing prize money on sustainable performance is not the way to measure a seasonal reward, but that seems to be the case here.
Colgan: I would say that golf “play-offs” need some adjustments across the table, mainly because most people who read this story do not understand how PGA Tour or Liv work at the end of the season. After the season it should not require an advanced math degree to understand … and considering the inconsistency of Rahm/Niemann, after the LIV season may need first adjustment.
Pastowski: I think the question is, what do you like the most-high-level consistency or wins mixed with 33 links? I will rely on giving more points to the victories, but Niemann also had five conclusions this year connected to the 20th or worse. Rahm, meanwhile, did not end worse than connected to the 11th, but never won. A strange, for sure. It was near, anyway.
With the end of the individual LIV championship, four players will now move for the next season. Now a few years in Livi format, does removal work? Does what is right or wrong?
Departure of Livi! Bonuses! And a 52-year-old tube mount!? Sunday will be wild

Sense: It works in theory. Movement adds a layer of pressure and gives fans a story to follow, which Liv needs as much as he can get. In practice, however, a withdrawal player can be taken again, as happened with Branden Grace last year. He performed poorly enough to fall in the late 2024, but he was popular enough to get caught in time to play in 2025. This is a long -teeth release system.
Colgan: Agreed, sense. Reset as one IDEAS It’s pretty sweet. But I’m not sure we’ve seen it in practice yet.
Pastowski: Waitte wait and look for me. This was developed last year, and the players returned. But if Liv adheres to it, makes the league more an open store, which is the goal. Whoever takes those positions available will also be interesting – as well as any off -season contract negotiation with some of Livi’s largest stars.
Mason Howell won the American amateur on Sunday, Beating Jackson Herington 7 and 6 in Olympic Club. It was a casual week in San Francisco, led by the Howell’s victory, but also by John Daly II’s run, the emergence of a Underdog Diii, staggering crowds (and interviews!) About a local favorite and more. What was your most memorable moment from I’m?
In the USA am, a local hero shines and a Cinderella run comes to an end
Semester
Colgan: Jimmy ABDO !!!! The 4,292 Rangut amateur in the world made it in the quarterfinal round of the largest amateur event in the sport. I love an submissive story, and I’m not sure I have heard a better in 2025 than Abdo, the last four years of which have seen him removed from his high school team and the D1 offer less on the transfer portal. He made many people remember his name at O-Club.
Pastowski: That I have to try a burger dog soon. Ill, maybe. Colgan is right about ABDO – is one of the reasons why the amateur is excellent. But I loved the crowds that Niall Shiels Donegan Drew and his wild post -round interviews (which were admirable by the Golf Channel’s Brentley Romine). Another attraction of the amateur is the proximity of the event, and that was certainly it.
Sense: The crowds that the hero of the house (and the semi-finalist) NIAL Shiels-Donegan drew all week. Great and courageous. And the pure joy that Shiels-Donegan demonstrated in placing a herd show for them. He did not win but he was the story of the week.
