Justin Thomas knows the feeling, but this time it is much different than the last.
In 2023, Thomas lost FedEx Cup’s Play offs and had to sweat a three-week reception before being informed by Captain Zach Johnson that he was heading to Rome as a member of Ryder Cup team. While Thomas still has to rely on choosing a captain this year – this time by Keegan Bradley – he is in a much better place as he found his way to get out of the desert and again in the high form.
“I knew I needed a lot of luck,” Thomas said on Sunday for his reception in 2023. “I needed much more than now, I would say. I feel much better for my chances, I would hope. I feel like forever, and I’m glad you do.”
Bradley will make his captain’s elections Wednesday, and Thomas enters the next 24 to 48 hours sure he will be part of the team in Bethpage Black in September, given a current form of form that included a victory in RBC Heritage.
“Judah is just different,” Thomas said, comparing this expectation with agonizing extension in 2023. “Of course, I think it was, the seventh or eight or something like that, and feeling like I did well in the team events in the past, but no doubt I can feel quite well with it.”
Confidential Tournament: Who should Keegan Bradley choose with Ryder Cup’s captain’s choices?
Golf editors
2025 Ryder Cup is approaching The whole golf season. Tourdo tournaments have asked questions about the rankings, the potential teammates, the course, etc. These questions are intensified only after the summer has drone.
Last week, Team USA’s six automatic qualifiers were closed, with Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffle, Harris English, Russell Henley, JJ Spaun and Bryson Dechambeau winning spots. This leaves six points for Bradley to complement, with the possibility that he can use a selection in itself by hanging during his Wednesday elections.
Thomas is a main contender and is almost certainly a blockage to make the team. Other potential captain choices face a nervous attack two days before taking the call with a finger up or finger down from Bradley.
“It has definitely been in the back of my head,” said Collin Morikawa after finishing T19 in East Lake. “Hard hard to push it aside. I haven’t played greatly, but I think I’m a great asset to that team. I hope I’ll get a positive call from Keegan. Look at the end of the day, he will do what is best for the team, and we will see how you play.”
Ben Griffin has had a year in his career, including a win in Charles Schwab Challenge and team of Classic Classic team. Griffin ended up ninth on the list of US points and hopes he will make his debut Ryder Cup next month, but he knows things may not go on his way. The only way to make sure you are on the team is to end up in the first six.
“I feel like every day I get questions about the Ryder Cup,” Griffin said on Sunday. “There has definitely been an added pressure for me, and it’s something that has been more in my mind than it should be.
“It will be an anxiety 24 to 48 hours. I will not say stressful because I feel like I am too blessed to stress. But definitely anxious just to see if I have won a place in that team or not, or if Keegan believes in me. I know I have been able to handle some great moments this season.
KEEGAN BRADLEY MAKES BIRDIE NO 18 In Tour Championship
Cameron Young was the best player on the 2023 score list who left out the team Zach Johnson led to Rome. It is a snub that prompted Young, who played his best golf in last month, including his first career victory in the Wynham championship.
The New York locals, who won the New York State 2017 in Bethpage Black, is convinced that he has done enough to win a place this time.
“Be that as it may, of course, I really really want to make that team,” Young said after a T4 finish in East Lake. “If this call goes the wrong way, in my opinion, it will be a little hard to get. I feel like I have done everything you can ask me to do that team over the past four weeks, and then if you look again, with really half a season.”
Like young, Sam Burns will be in the sweat hour in the next two days while Bradley makes his decision. But Burns, who was a star in the USA President’s Cup win over the internationals last year but went 1-2-0 to Rome, is satisfied with any decision.
“It will be a 24 -hour or 48 hour long time,” Burns said. “(I have) 100 percent confidence in Keegan. I know whatever decision he makes will be the one he thinks is the best for the team. After all, I’m Team USA. If I’m in the team, awesome. I wouldn’t love anything more. I will not root for them.”
The increase in the intrigue is that Bradley has played his way in discussion to be the first captain to play since Arnold Palmer in 1963. Bradley won the traveler championship and has been one of the 12 best Americans this year. it’s A difficult decision – one that will shape how his captain’s elections play and ultimately determine who leaves home. Is one dilemma that has weighed in Bradley As the year continued, and the one who is happy is close to is over – even if he still does not have the clarity he seeks.
“I think no matter what decision I make here, I could have gone to the other side easily, no matter what,” Bradley said Sunday. “The only thing I care about is on the Ryder Cup Sunday, for us to win the Ryder Cup. Then I will know that I have made the right decision. By then, I will not know. It will be pretty wild. At that decision we make, we will have to live with it. I love the boys in our team.
For Bradley, a 24 to 48 -hour agonizer approached. Then, it’s time to finally put the whole conversation in bed.
