The WBA announced today that they have approved the WBA ‘ordinary’ welterweight title to be at stake for the Ryan Garcia against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero Fight on May 2 on Times Square in New York.
Belt on the line
This will cause the Garcia-Romero battle to be more at stake when they meet, rather than just a collision that produces a fight between Ryan and Devin Haney in October. If you win the WBA title, the re -broadcast against Haney will be a bigger one with a title at stake.
Rolly and Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 COs) are ranked on the rankings of #2 and #3 on the WBA’s rankings on Welterweight. So it makes sense that the World Boxing Association will have their ‘ordinary’ title on the line for their fight next month on Dazn ppv.
Ryan was regularly criticized for never winning a world title during his nine -year career. If he captures the WBA ‘ordinary’ welterweight belt, he can permanently conclude the criticism. It will ratify his career and give him credentials that are missing in the eyes of Hardcore box fans who pay attention to details like this.
The disadvantage of Garcia is that if he captures the WBA ‘ordinary’ title against Rolly, he should face the winner of the battle between the WBA Super World Champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis and Shakhram Giyasov. Fighting one of these guys would be difficult for Ryan because they are both major welter weights with excellent strength and technical skills.
Ennis increases
The newly crowned WBA champion Ennis was raised by the World Boxing Association to the WBA Super Champion on 147 today. Boots (35-0, 30 costs) must conquer his title against his WBA compulsory Giyasov within 120 days after winning the title on April 12, of Eimantas Stanionis.
“Ennis is now the mandate to defend his super -championship against Shakhram Giyasov – the official mandatory challenger of the division,” according to the WBA website. “According to WBA rules, Ennis must face Giyasov within 120 days of his victory on April 12. The winner of Ennis against Giyasov will face Garcia’s winner against Romero.”
