Ryan Garcia says he is training now to stay ready for when Devin Haney wants to face him in a rematch. Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) believes the rematch with Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) will remove any debate about who is the better fighter because he has already beaten him once.
Haney has not said when he will return to the ring, but Garcia is the obvious target. The only big-money fight available for the former two-division world champion Haney wants is against Garcia. However, with the praise Devin’s father Bill Haney heaped on YouTuber Jake Paul last week, it’s possible he’s looking to take Dev in that direction.
Bill was constantly showering Jake with compliments, calling him the “face of boxing” and commenting on how he brings in the “cake”. It would be a huge step down for Haney to go from being a world champion to being a YouTuber-type fighter, but I guess you’ve got to do something when things look bleak.
If Haney chooses to continue fighting real boxers, Ryan is his best shot at making a ton of money. There is no one at 140 and 147 that can fight Haney to make similar money. Haney doesn’t have the strength to fight Terence Crawford or any of the big punchers at 154, and certainly, he couldn’t handle fighting any of the 160-pounders either.
“We practice every day. We have to be ready that way when Devin Haney wants to fade again. We already beat his a** once. If we do it twice, don’t debate anymore. I beat his a** like he stole something,” said Ryan Garcia Cool Kicksand says he’s training for when Devin Haney next faces him in a rematch.
“The weigh-in and the day of the fight he was a pound heavier than me. So there is no excuse. He also took 1.5 million dollars because I lost weight. Once you take the money, shut the fuck up. He’s a Diddy man. Whatever. I don’t know. Ask Devin. He was at his cot. He said: ‘There’s no party like a Diddy party. I think we know for sure now. This is a fact. Him and his daddy,” Garcia said when asked what was going on with Diddy.
