Ryan Garcia says he’s not giving Haney a rematch right now

Ryan Garcia said on social media today that he will not give Devin Haney a rematch right now because of the lawsuit he filed. Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) may not have realized his lawsuit would create this reaction because he wanted a second fight. He may have misjudged what Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) would do.

Assuming Ryan doesn’t change his mind, the lawsuit by Haney is his rematch, and if it doesn’t bring in mega-millions, it will have been a massive mistake.

Not getting the second fight with Ryan leaves Haney in a tough spot because he’s not a PPV draw, and there are no major pay-per-view stars at 140 or 147.

Haney is too big for Gervonta Davis to fight him. It is the only other money fighter next to Ryan. If Haney moves up to 154, there’s only one star: Terence Crawford. However, he only wants Canelo Alvarez, and he probably won’t be interested in fighting Haney unless His Excellency Turki Alalshikh pays him massive money.

Haney filed a lawsuit Friday over his fight with Ryan Garcia on April 20, alleging cheating and hazing. Ryan tested positive for the banned PED Ostarine.

It’s a money grab. What he does is going to get him more money. I don’t know why he’s dragging it out,” Ryan Garcia said on X, about Devin Haney’s lawsuit against him for battery, fraud and unjust enrichment.

Some fans on social media believe that the lawsuit by Haney is to keep milking Ryan for money from their fight. There is no one else for Haney to fight that can give him the kind of payday he got from Ryan. So, if Haney wins the lawsuit and gets a rematch on top of that, he will do very well.

Unfortunately, Haney shot himself in the foot with the lawsuit because Ryan says he won’t fight him now. We don’t know if other fighters and their promoters will want to avoid Haney out of concern that they might get sued for this or that.

“He’s going to take two L’s. One in the courtroom, one in the ring. He cried to Eddie Hearn that, “You’re not giving me any tickets,” Garcia continued.

“Let’s say they take all my money in the lawsuit. It’s not going to hurt me. None of this is going to stop me. I can’t wait for the trial so I can make them look stupid.

“If I drank every day, how would I have a six-pack? How would I make it to 143 if I hit beer? They’re suing me for beating the crap out of them. They underestimated me so much,” Garcia said of Team Haney.

Haney felt that due to his recent wins over Regis Prograis, Vasily Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr he had the talent to defeat Garcia without too much trouble. Ryan hasn’t beaten anyone near the level of Prograis or Lomachenko in his career. So, Haney assumed he would beat him based on his superior experience.

“Anytime I wanted to hit him, I could hit him. When I turned it on him, it was like, ‘boom, boom, boom.’ I’m not going to give him a rematch after this. After the summons and all the funny business. I don’t care if he’s gay. Just admit it.

“It is very embarrassing for him. I am thinking of fighting in Dubai or Tokyo. I really don’t know what the lawsuit is about. Apparently they are suing me for battery. If anything, he beat me to the Empire State Building,” Garcia said.

Haney is suing Ryan for battery and fraud. Given the trace amounts of PED in Ryan’s system, it’s unclear whether a judge would award Haney large enough damages to make the lawsuit worthwhile in the first place. If he loses the rematch with Ryan because of the lawsuit, it’s a failure if he doesn’t get a massive fortune.
