Ryan Garcia is back with his former coach, Eddy Reynoso, after dividing two fights with coach Derrick James. Garcia last worked with Reynoso for his fighting against Luke Campbell in 2022 and has since been briefly with Joe Goosen and James.
Goosen trained Garcia for three fights against Gerrvonta Davis, Javier Fortuna and Emmanuel Tagoe. Derrick James then took over for Ryan’s last two fights against Devin Haney and Oscar Duarte.
Return to Reynoso
Ryan’s father, Henry Garcia, revealed that he is now working with Eddy Reynoso again and will return to the gym after being in shape with a little run. Kingry has been inactive since his blow -out victory over Devin Haney in April last year due to the annual suspension distributed by the New York State Athletic Commission.
Garcia will take a fight against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero in May in New York as part of a Riyadh season map. It is not a battle that Ryan needs detailed training because Rolly knows a poor know, no skills and more of a true travel man level than world class. This battle has a knockout of one round for Ryan written all over.
Potential collision
It would be strange for Ryan (24-1, 20 COs) to be in the same gym with WBO Light Welterweight Champion Theofimo lopezAs he has recently teamed up with Eddy. Garcia and Theofimo are expected to fight in February 2026. It is unlikely that Teo and Ryan will be in the gym at the same time unless Brooklyn’s native goes out of his way to fall in to explore him.
‘Turki al-Sheikh came through. He likes Ryan, ”Henry Garcia said Millcity BoxingTalk about his son, Ryan Garcia, well with Turki al-Sheikh. “There’s something new. The coach is new. We are back in San Diego. That’s right, ”Henry said when asked if Ryan Garcia was back with coach Eddy Reynoso.
“It’s hard not to get away with Eddy because of the heritage. We go back. Canelo and Ryan worked out everything. It was a misunderstanding. Everything is back to the way it was. We are good.
“It was nothing against Derrick (James). He is a good, excellent coach. The thing is that there was nothing in Texas that happened to him (Ryan) last year was not as positive as here. So why are it going somewhere, it is negative if you can convert it? Ryan feels safer here, it’s better here (South California).
Ryan looked good in his last fight against Haney, but he didn’t have to do much because Devin couldn’t handle his power. All Garcia needed was his left hook, and Haney was all over the place and hit the deck almost every time. It was a total maladjustment, and Ryan seemed to have taken it in the later rounds easily, so he wouldn’t hurt him.
Training focus
“You have family members here. You have people here who understand him, and we are there for him, ”Henry Garcia said of Ryan in South California. “I’m in camp with him now. I’m not saying that Ryan is overweight because he has the height, and we fight at 147.
“It’s not as if we’re away, but if you do powerful training, make sure you are not exhausted. You have to do the whole workout without any interruptions, ”says Henry.
