Ryan Garcia says Gervonta Davis’s poor performance against Lamont Roach last Saturday night was the result of his planning for retirement soon and not spiritually focused on how hard he should be against a motivated fighter.
The WBA lightweight champion tank escaped with a 12-round majority draws, but many supporters felt he had lost. Ryan believes it should be a beat in the ninth round when Davis (30-0-1, 28 COs) took a knee. He blamed it on hair fat coming into his eyes.
One foot out
Garcia says if Gevonta gets away with taking a knee without a point taken away, other fighters will do the same and blame it on a physical issue. This will “kill the momentum of their opponent, and they can get back into battle.
Ryan does not buy the technical issue that the New York Commission presumably prevents reviewing the ninth round when the tank has a knee. He points out that the repetition was shown in the arena.
“That’s what happens when you’re one foot in one foot out (in retirement) before stepping into the ring,” Ryan Garcia said ifl tv About Saturday night’s Gervonta Davis against Lamont Roach match in Brooklyn. “Getting to the third or fourth equipment you will need, especially if you are that man, will want the other old ten times more.”
Tank said he would retire in three fights. He specifically chose Roach rather than someone from the 135 pound division. Fans saw it as Davis on his retirement tour, who chose the opposition to ensure he got out of the game without losing.
“So, if one foot is out, you’re going to get into the ring and you’ll have that moment where you know you’ll have to walk it and it just won’t come. I think that’s what happened, ”Garcia continued as to why Tank struggled against Roach.
Davis would have had problems with Roach, even if he had no intention of retiring. He only fights in Spurts, and a man made for Roach, who is smart. He studied Davis’ fighting and understood that he was someone he could work out. That’s what he did.
Knockdown -denial
‘100% who had to be decided as a knockout (in the ninth). I like Tank Davis, but these are the rules. You can’t take such a knee. He knew it. He says he didn’t, but he did. In addition, there is no way in hell that they had technical problems. They showed the repetition in the arena. There is no way they had technical problems.
“I think they should do something about it because it gives incentive to other boxers,” I’m going to take a knee when something bothers me. I hurt my hand a little. I hurt my elbow a little. ‘Make a few up and go back to fight. If you kill the momentum of the other man, go back and fight. They have to do something, otherwise you will do many boxers, some strange things, ‘says Garcia.
