Ruturaj Gaikwad hits a one-handed stunner to dismiss Riyan Parag in Duleep Trophy

Parag is yet to make a significant impact at any level since his IPL 2024 heroics with Rajasthan Royals (RR). His memorable performance in IPL 2024 earned him his first India call-up and the Assam all-rounder was given a chance on the tour of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, but he failed to make a mark with the bat.

Now, the talented batsman has found himself under scrutiny for not playing some impressive innings in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024. After failing to score in the first innings in the ongoing 6th Duleep Trophy 2024, Parag was determined to make amends. C in the second innings and on his way to a hundred against India.

But India C captain Ruturaj Gaikwad he had another plan for the dangerous looking Parag. Gaikwad took his wicket to send the India A batter back to the pavilion in frustration at Anantapur on Saturday.

As Gaurav Yadav bowled a slower ball, Parag came out of his crease and hit hard in front. However, there was no such pace at the bowler and Gaikwad made an incredible leap to his left, plucking the ball in the air to complete a magnificent one-handed catch that ensured the departure of the well-set Parag.

Parag was on his way to a century, scoring 73 runs off 101 balls laced with five fours and a six in the ongoing match before the India C captain’s stunning effort. Had it not been for Gaikwad’s superb effort, Parag would have secured his fourth first-class hundred.

India C captain Gaikwad fails to impress with the bat

It was the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper’s third catch in the second innings of India A in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 match against India C at Anantapur. Earlier, Gaikwad caught Partham Singh (11) and Tilak Verman (19) in the match but Parag would feel bad for the knock.

However, India A still lead the game by 330+ against India C thanks to Shashwat Rawan and Parag’s fifties. Currently leading by 333 runs against India C in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 match at Anantapur, India A’s score reads 270/6.

Anshul Kamboj, Gaurav Yadav and Manav Suthar have taken two wickets each for India C against India A so far. Earlier, after India A posted 297 runs on the board in the first innings, India C struggled for 234 runs.

For India C, Abhishek Porel was the top scorer in the first innings with 82 runs off 113 balls in the ongoing first-class game. Pulkit Narang also made a valuable contribution with 41 runs while skipper Gaikwad was out with 20 balls for just 17 runs against India A.
